In the end, this ends up just as much about controlling people's behaviour, as the burka is in the first place. So, is it better, simply because now we've forced people to look the way we want? At the price of our own freedoms?

It does sound rather like something a good little socialist would come up with. Everyone must look alike.

Quebec's a bit of an enigma in that way. I've had a few friends from there, and what they describe is rabidly right wing, downright racist attitudes from many, which seems to hold up pretty well with the relatives I've met from there. So, if you've got a xenophobic, racist attitude, driving the needs to eradicate other people's religious symbols, how does it end up translating into something so incredibly socialist?

The extremes on both sides of the political spectrum are almost identical in their rantings.
