TSA agent accidentally pepper sprays fellow agents

An incident that reportedly led a TSA agent to accidentally shoot five fellow employees with pepper spray left Kennedy International Airport with mud in its eye.
According to the New York Post, the stinging substance that is meant to be aimed at the face, and can cause major eye irritation, sent all six airport security screeners to the hospital.
The Post reports:
The agent, Chris Yves Dabel, discovered the device at the Terminal 2 security checkpoint and tried to determine if it was real, a source told The Post.
He told Port Authority cops that he “found the canister on the floor and thought it was a laser pointer.”
“They were playing around with it,” said one Kennedy Airport official.
The incident sounds more like something from "The Three Stooges" than something security experts would do.
The TSA seemed to assert in a statement to ABC News that the agent was being professional, not playful. “Officers were examining an abandoned item to determine its contents and to move it out of harm’s way when it accidentally discharged.” The TSA added that no travelers were injured.
The embarrassing incident led to the shutdown of security check points for 15 minutes, the UPI reports.
This is not the first time the TSA has suffered a security snafu. An earlier report in the New York Post exposed Newark Liberty Airport for failing to catch a fake bomb as part of a training exercise. An undercover agent brought the mock explosives through two layers of security, hidden in his pants.

Not really, it's just a job to most of them, either the Canadian version or the American.

Well I don't really feel safer either, I was typing with my sarcastic fingers, lol.

I do get that it's a job here in N.A. but it's not a job at McDonalds. Sometimes my job is just a job but the serious parts I take seriously. Picking up an unidentified object and playing with it....that's something we teach 5 year olds not to do. They're embarrassed and they should be.

Security is intrusive, but if it's fair, upfront and honest, I have no problem with it.

Taking their job seriously is what pisses people off. Maybe that's why they have such poor hiring practices.

That's what you get when you hire people who's only prerequisite is that they haven't been in trouble with the law.

Israeli security isn't really all that intrusive, and it actually works.

They used to hire convicted hackers to run IT security systems (not sure if they still do). Maybe they should hire known terrorists to run airport security.

On a recent tech show, they showed Israeli airport security and a computer that asks you questions and reads your bio-reactions for bullsh*t. Great idea. Computers can't power trip or set off pepper spray in an enclosed area.

If I were a terrorist, I'd bomb the security portion of the airport, there are more people caught up in the security bottleneck than there is on a jumbo jet.

It's a sure hit as there is no prescreening for screening.

And the computer isn't going to feel you up or take xrays.

I'm more concerned about aircraft maintenance than I am about terrorists.

I like being felt up and showing off in x-rays. One day I'm going to wear a mylar fig leaf in the xray phone booth and screw with their heads.

Then you aren't as old and lumpy as I am. That xray thing would be worse for me than being felt up!

Don't take an early morning flights.

Your odds of looking crazy and ending up in the phone booth are much lower if you fly after brunch ;)
