Man Whose Company Committed Medicare Fraud To Lead GOP Health-Care Push

22 years ago, Scott’s company was responsible for “the largest health-care fraud case in U.S. history.”
If there's been one trend within the Trump administration's domestic policy practices so far, it would be appointing industry insiders to top positions in the White House in order to remove the regulations in any given department, the New York Magazine writes. And on Thursday, President Trump continued to follow his controversial decision making tactics. Trump told reporters that Florida Senator Rick Scott and fellow Republican Senators John Barrasso of Wyoming and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, will lead the party's emphasis on health-care reform.
“They are going to come up with something really spectacular,” Trump said.

But Scott's past looks to be everything but spectacular. During the 1990's, Scott served as CEO of Columbia/HCA, a company that boasted over 340 hospitals, 550 home-health locations, and 135 surgery centers before his resignation in 1997. That year, federal agents began investigating whether the company committed large scale Medicare and Medicaid fraud. And, the investigators found, they did.
In what the Justice Department labeled “the largest health-care fraud case in U.S. history," Columbia/HCA paid the government $1.7 billion for charges including billing federal programs for tests that were neither necessary nor ordered, attaching false diagnosis codes to records to receive more reimbursement, and a host of other crimes, according to Politifact.
During his time in politics, Scott has been extremely inconsistent with his stance on health care. When he first became governor, Scott refused Medicaid expansion under Obamacare. But not long after, in 2013, he agreed to use federal funds to expand the program. By his second term, Scott's position on the expansion totally reversed.

They don't.
The U.S. Pays a Lot More for Top Drugs Than Other Countries

Prices for brand-name drugs are typically higher in the U.S. than other developed countries. The drug industry has argued it's misleading to focus on U.S. list prices that exclude discounts struck behind closed doors with insurers.
A Bloomberg News analysis finds that even after these discounts, prices are higher in the U.S. than abroad. Seven of eight top-selling drugs examined still cost more in the U.S. than most other countries.

You posted the prices were 10-100 times greater, the biggest multiple in this article is under 7 and one drug even costs less than some of the other prices in graphs.

Yes, I blew those numbers out my ass, just like you do all the time.

More correctly, it is 3 - 6 times more than anywhere else.

As of May 2, the list price of Humalog, a short-acting insulin, is $274.70 for a 10 ml bottle, an increase of 7.8% from what the list price had been since July 2016. On May 2, Lilly also took a 7.8% list price increase to Humulin, an older form of insulin. Novo Nordisk, which also makes a short-acting insulin, increased its prices to the drug in 2017. In February, the drugmaker raised its price to $275.58 for a 10 ml bottle, up 7.9% from what the list price had been since July 2016. In December, Novo Nordisk committed to limiting all future drug list price increases from the company to single digit percentages.
Over the last decade, the list prices of the two drugs have increased by 290%.

Canadian Insulin Prices

Supplies

I just returned from a trip to Canada. Across from my hotel was a Shoppers Drug Mart so I went inside. I had been told that insulin was a lot cheaper in Canada and is available without a prescription.
To make a long story short: 5 Pens of Lantis $113 Canadian 5 Pens of Humalog $65 Canadian.
For those of us currently lacking insurance Both these retail for about $476 US each at local pharmacies here in Washington. $178 Canadian works out to about $124 US.
I should have purchased several boxes, but I was worried about getting it back home. There was no issue at the border when returning home, but I suppose there might have been had I purchased several boxes.
It will be nice to get back to using Modern Insulin again! Paid for the entire trip with the insulin savings... and then some.
Fortunately for me, It's a fairly close drive, so I am seeing more trips to our northern neighbors while I work out my Insurance issues.

Americans have been buying prescription drugs in Canada for years.

There are bus charters that come up here just for that.

I wonder how popular pot tourism to Canada is going to be?

It could be a major source of revenue if the right sort of tour packages are put together.

"Come to Canmore and get HIGH up in the Rocky Mountains for a week!"

"Come get STONED with us in Muskoka!"

"Get the MUNCHIES in Montreal!"

"Same-old, same-old in Vancouver!"

Trump backs off threat to close southern border immediately, says he'll give Mexico 'one-year warning' on drugs, migrants

The president told reporters at the White House on Thursday that if Mexico does not make progress on stemming the flow of drugs and migrants into the United States within the next year, he will impose tariffs on cars and close the border.

Trump had previously said he would close the border, or at least large sections of it, this week if Mexico does not halt illegal immigration into the United States.
