Interesting side note about the Cyclone. That whole procurement was a nightmare. The airborne ASW capability is such an expensive and limiting requirement. I really question the need for it.

The Sikorsky helicopters that the RCN has operated since the beginning of navy helicopters in Canada have done yeoman's service. They have proven to be as tough as nails and even now, the Navy has kept the half century Sea Kings in a pretty high operational state. They're built as tough as DC-3s. The Cormorant variants on the EH-101s have had all sorts of issues, though. I was talking with one of their former aircrew and he a told horror story of a complete computer failure on one WHILE IN FLIGHT. British engineering. Yay.

The procurement WAS a dog's breakfast and the really bad part is that the Canadian taxpayer has paid for the development of a new Naval helicopter that will probably end up being used all over the world during the 21st century ...the true successor to the indomitable Sea King. This will be a good thing in the end. Too bad that we're only buying 28 of them.

Well, you have to remember that most oil companies have believed in man-made climate change for decades.

Of course, they plan on making a fortune from it the same way they did from SO2 cap and trade.

It's awesome that oil companies can put up some whirlygigs which justifies raping the f-ck out of 3rd world countries through offsets.

I am just tickled that the source is being questioned - given the source is Trump.

It's a thing of beauty to see how low the liberscaredians will go to ignore anything that compels them to acknowledge man made climate change.

Trump said this? Can you quote him?

maybe Trump mumbled that as he was signing-off on KXL.

i suspect he was laughing at the time

It's like talking to a really stupid person.

You might be an expert on this everytime you greet yourself in the mirror

There are almost no deniers of climate change anymore.

Except for everyone outside the IPCC

There is no sea ice floating around japan.

How's that ice free North pole since 2013 working out for ya?

It gets more so, every year. You should read the article on the De Wolf Class that the Navy is building, right now. Part of their mission in the immediate future is escorting the cruise ships that are already transiting the Northwest Passage ... that used to be impenetrable. You remember, the one that swallowed up Franklin and a whole host of his rescuers?

But then again, the oil execs in Calgary know ALL about that. They've locked it up in a safe, though and fired the guy who put it together.

Have you seen the new Russia double acting tankers?

Is Putin a denier?

They're not transiting the Northwest Passage ... yet, anyway. They're cruising the relatively ice free Russian Arctic waters. In fact, the going it so good and ice free north of Siberia now that the Northwest Passage may be bypassed by most commercial traffic. Up there, they can sail in a straight line, not up and down the passages between our islands.

The only bad part for the Russians (and Americans and British an probably the French, too) is that it's getting harder for them to hide their Ballistic Missile Submarines without the year-long ice cover that they used to enjoy.

It's not ice free on the Russian side either.

It's not "ice free" anywhere, yet. There used to be ice all year long. It is now clearing for part of the year and earlier every year. This all came about quite suddenly. With the current trend, it may very well be ice free, quite soon. I don't know what idiot said the it was going tho be "ice free in 2017". It sounds like an oil industry invention to arm internet trolls with snappy memes.

As long as the earth has an axis 23.5° off kilter there will be sea ice.

There is a hell of a lot less of it than there was a few decades ago. If there really is a "greenhouse" effect (like the one that cooks Venus at 500 degrees) the tilt won't be relevant to the outcome.

Ah yes but there is also another axis phenomenon hitting the Arctic but it's probably nothing and makes no sense in relation to how the sun's energy impacts earth because nobody can make money off it.

Pay full attention to what Petros has posted and add in the effects of things like volcanic activity and other natural sources of emissions that are more directly linked to these changes... The historic record is filled with the records of multiple episodes of continental glaciation so this clear and definitive proof of anthropogenic global warming (or climate change or whatever other horse shit marketing term that is being used today) blows that entire theory into billions of pieces.

It's a fools errand to believe that the use of fossil fuel is magically the smoking gun on this issue, but then again, you can't tax polar migration or volcanic activity can you?

whether a person believes in climate change or not has no bearing on the truth.
