It's not rocket science. He penetrated the N. Korea regime further than any other president in 70 years and the relationship between the two is less tense than at any time in 70 years. He's broken through the tough veneer.

Actually the reverse is true. Kim gained more prestige than any other NK leader for conning the US president into a one-on-one meeting.

And Kim has all the leverage if Trump does indeed meet with him before the midterms because he need the meeting to at least temporarily appear to be a win for the USA.
