Trump should rightly be skeptical of the media and political establishment's assertion that the Assad government was responsible for the (purported) chlorine gas attack on civilians which are pushing him for a military response.

The old adage of 'follow the money' applies here; ie. who stands to benefit. The only ones you can clearly exclude from that is Assad and Syrian army, who have had the upper hand for last 2 years at least. The last thing they want to do is bring direct U.S. intervention into play.

The timing of this incident is notable. In the immediate aftermath of Trump's musing about removing the remaining U.S. advisory troops from Syria. The most notable opponents of that are Israel and the militias opposing Assad. It is well with in the realm of possibility that Israel's Mossad collaborated with anti-Assad (some associated with Islam jihads) to retain a U.S. presence.

Israel more than anyone else opposes Assad and his Baathist party's secular pan Arab nationalism which they view as their primary existential threat. This would present a unified Arab coalition undivided by the factional and religious rivalry that has fractured their opposition in the past.

Trump should be very careful about being played by interest groups in the Syria, and those in Congress. Specifically the radical NeoCon American imperial globalists like Lindsay Graham and John McCain.

I would pray to sense and reason that he wouldn't even read (or in his case, watch) the media's assertion. The Office of the President has far better sources of information.

I wonder if Spanky is even aware of that.

Let Israel fight it's own wars, and those other two should be put on trial for treason.

If Trump does this, a real war in Syria, he is done for the midterms.

He'll be singing his own death warrant.

Enjoy the win.

There was an interesting doc on PBS Frontline yesterday about how Trump is remaking the Republican Party in his own image and ousting the old NeoCon Reaganite Establishment. Those turfed, through the Trump 'base', include Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker.

And now it would appear House Speaker Paul Ryan has decided not to run for reelection. Ryan is a standard NeoCon, an acolyte of Ayn Rand. Read that as a social libertarian; an economic small government regressive taxation liberal; an American empire free trade globalist. All with some type of fascination for the 'superman' of Rand and Nietzsche.

Prior to this his partner in crime, Erik Cantor, former House Majority Leader was ousted in a grass roots (read that Trump) Republican rebellion. Cantor has become Vice Chairman at the Investment Bank Moelis and Co.. Which means he's earning $millions as a figure head and arch political connection for the bank. I think Ryan saw that and said, let me in on the big bucks. He'll just have to check his conscience at the door.

It's all for the good. The Reagan/Thatcher trickledown neocon Republicanism has had its day. It's been a total failure.

If Trump has forced Ryan out of politics it is his first valuable accomplishment.

Ryan is a douche.

Tell us what YOU think of Ryan, Walter. Try to form complete sentences while doing it.

Couldn't do it, eh Walther?

Now there's a surprise.

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
