Complaints by members of a Canadian media union over a public statement on dangers faced by on-the-ground journalists in Gaza prompted a quick edit that didn’t blame only Israel for the crisis.😳

The Canadian Media Guild (CMG), a trade union representing 6,000 Canadian media workers, issued a statement Thursday afternoon decrying the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and its impact on journalism and journalists, but several union members were upset their union’s statement blamed just one side in the conflict.🤔

“The problem with the press release was if you knew nothing about the conflict and just read that press release, you would have the impression that Israel mounted an unprovoked attack on Palestinian civilians in an attempt to annihilate them,” said a CMG union member who works at CBC and who asked not to be named for fear of jeopardizing union support in a precarious job market.

“There is no mention of Hamas’ role in any of this; not in the massacre that triggered the war, not for holding hostages, and most significantly in terms of this press release, no mention of Hamas looting aid delivery,” the member said.

The union’s executive soon received “feedback from members,” prompting a re-evaluation and an edit the following day, said Andreea Mihai, spokeswoman for the CMG.

“In response to feedback from members, we clarified the language in the statement to underscore our call for ‘all parties’ to cease hostilities and to reaffirm our focus on the safety of media professionals,” Mihai told National Post.

The updated version of the release, changed late Friday afternoon, leaves that last sentence intact but adds a postscript below it, reading: “Finally, the CMG calls on all parties to end the hostilities and cease the inhumane treatment of civilians in the region.”

The new version of the release includes a notation: “This communication has been adjusted for clarification.”
There are no Western Journalists in Gaza.

During the conflict, Israel imposed strict controls on international journalists, requiring military escorts and pre-broadcast reviews of their footage. In January 2024, the Supreme Court of Israel upheld these requirements on security grounds.

Back in the Western world & outside of the goat rodeo arena, the alignment of decolonial militants and anti-Israel radicals has become a permanent part of western politics. It is also unlikely that the rash of hate crimes perpetrated against Jews in Canada and elsewhere will abate in the near future.

Members of progressive governments have shown a disgraceful tendency to tolerate these incidents. Following the vandalism of the synagogue in Victoria, Liberal MP Will Greaves condemned the crime on social media, but that was as far as his party went.

They will not risk alienating the sizable part of the left wing that is obsessed with Gaza. The police are investigating the incident, but even if they find the perpetrator, heavy sentences are unlikely.

A Toronto-area man who was arrested after threatening to bomb every synagogue in the city received a sentence of just 60 days of house arrest. It seems that would-be terrorists only get timeouts in 2025.
I wonder what Amira Elghawaby would have to say about this?

Why aren't they Pro Israel?
The arseholes harassing somebody at their place of residence? Is that what you’re asking? Could it be because they’re useful yet entitled idiots that have swallowed the prepackaged propaganda that was set to go before Oct 7th 2023 happened and continued to do so?

(I’ll watch your video sometime on the weekend before Lisa gets out of bed so she doesn’t have to sit and listen to it also)

Yves Engler, a prominent pro-Palestinian activist who was at the demonstration outside Ms. Joly’s house, said it took place in part because other protests over the situation in Gaza had not received the attention they deserved…in his opinion. Dude has a history of being a douche bag, & that’s in the attached link.

Mr. Engler, a campaigner and author who has announced his intention to run for the leadership of the NDP, denied that the protest, estimated to have been attended by between 40 and 60 people, amounted to harassment at Ms. Joly’s home address.

September can't come fast enough?

Probably not for Gazans but that's the timeline.

Israel could try a bioweapon before then and say it's from "the conditions" or God sent a plague.

The world doesn't need a Jewish Taliban with nukes. Or does it?

Yeah, UN vote in September 2025, with Canada‘s endorsement in September, based upon conditions that don’t have to be met until sometime into 2026? Just seems kind of ass backwards, especially if none of those conditions are met.

Lots of things “could” happen, but reality and speculation are too very different things.

What good is a Palestine if the Palestinians are forced out or murdered?
