BREAKING: Ottawa Police Chief resigns: source

Sloly reportedly resigned due to accusations of bullying and volatile behaviour.

According to the Toronto Sun's Brian Lilley, the news came from a "senior source close to the situation."

The police chief is expected to make a public announcement later on Tuesday, a source told CBC News. The CBC would later report that Sloly resigned due to accusations of bullying and volatile behaviour.

Last week, Sloly said that there was "absolutely [no]" plans to resign as police chief, telling Newstalk 580 CFRA that he "came here to do a job."

"I came here to do a job and I’m going to get that job done all the way through," he said, according to CTV News. "Absolutely committed, have a great team here, great officers, we’ve got great partners in the city. We’re going to get this done."

The police chief was criticized last week by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms' John Carpay, who highlighted the police force's efforts to work with GoFundMe to remove funds from the Freedom Convoy truckers.

"Chief Sloly publicly accuses the truckers of engaging in 'unlawful' and 'harmful' activities, and of promoting 'hatred' and 'violence,'" but provides no examples, facts, or arrests to support his accusations," wrote Carpay.

"The Chief calls for 'order' to be 'restored' even though 'order' has not been lost. His fact-free rhetoric includes mention of an 'increasingly volatile' and 'increasingly dangerous' situation. As though speaking for an oppressive regime, Chief Sloly has repeatedly called for an 'end' to the exercise of the fundamental Charter freedoms of expression, association and peaceful assembly by Canadians in their own capital city," he wrote.

Ottawa Police have been reached for comment.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
“…..& He’s Out!!” Somebody here called this several days ago as he’s the only one that could be fired in this chain of command with most others being politicians…and it wasn’t me and I can’t remember who but good prediction.

Ottawa Police Chief quits.
Poor planning, poor leadership ,poor direction, poor enforcement, poor reaction, all around he fucked up. Other police forces did way better becasue they saw how badly he handle it. Better to quit then get fired.
Or maybe he’s the sacrificial goat and expendable. Got to blame somebody, and here we are.

No, I live here and see his briefings and the questions after.
He did not answer why no arrests, why no intervention, why police were just watching etc etc. He had nothing to say ever... except send me 1800 more police. He was as lame as they come.

Listening to Bill Blair the last several days it’s not like this is a surprise. This guy knew his days were numbered and he wasn’t voted into his position as the chief of police in Ottawa….oh well.

We had a situation like this in Regina in recent memory and the occupation went on for 243 days even with a court order stating that they need to vacate the premises. That chief of police is still currently the chief of police.

The guy’s reasoning is that he prevented violence for those 243 days and kept the peace much like the police chief in Ottawa.

Police are going too far in Ottawa.

To fight the cold, a crowd of truckers started a bonfire downtown. A guy walked by and yelled out, "THEATRE!" and was taken away in handcuffs.

(Thank you! I'm here all week! Try the fish!!)

Well, Sloly reasons is he is keeping it contained LOL Thing is, Sloly started by saying he needed more peole and never stopped sayinhg that. Every time he was asked why things were worse, he just kept saying he did not have enough and needed more. Poor management and direction and leadership made it what it is today, 19 days after it started.
Too bad the mayor is not resigning, but then again, he already announced he is not running next election.

Biased to what? Do I believe the Gov. would setup a demonstration to look more violent or have a hidden agenda than it is? Yes and Kenney is supposedly conservative so I don't see any bias in my post, how about yours?
... maybe go back up and read the posts relating to my question again.

As it is, I don't think this was planted at all - caches like this pop up a lot even in NB.

COULD it be a plant? Well anything could be I suppose. If it is, then there's serious questions that need to be answered for this kind'a shit.

I suppose one of the protesters may have had gang connections, thus the tie-in to access to these weapons. It's a bit of a stretch, but I can't see the Cops planting or staging this stuff...but stranger things have happened I guess.

This was of a seizure taken from assholes in MY town.

And yes, it was a valid seizure and not a 'plant'.

But hey, I'm likely lying, right TM?
PGS reported it was seized from a home in town, now was it apart of the protest? Or reported to look that way?

The official report leaves questions like what investigation were they able to perform in the middle of the protest for the police to get a search warrant on three campers? I would like to see the conviction on this

RCMP release names of individuals charged at Coutts, Alberta border protest – Canada Police Report

Coutts Alberta – The Alberta RCMP recently became aware of a small organized group within the larger Coutts protest. Information was received that this group had access to a cache of firearms with a large quantity of ammunition. The group was said to have a willingness to use force against the police if any attempts were made to disrupt the blockade. This resulted in an immediate and complex investigation to determine the extent of the threat and criminal organization.

This is closer to what PGS was posting which makes it smell like a setup that worked to break the blockade

RCMP announced Monday morning they seized a cache of firearms from a small organized group within the larger Coutts protest after executing a search warrant for a location near the blockade.

“Information was received that this group had access to a cache of firearms with a large quantity of ammunition,” said RCMP in the release.

“The group was said to have a willingness to use force against the police if any attempts were made to disrupt the blockade.

“As a result of this investigation, the Alberta RCMP executed a search warrant during the early hours of Feb. 14, on three trailers associated to this criminal organization.”

Organizers of the blockade at Coutts told the Western Standard they are not associated with this group in any way and “condemn their actions 100%.”

“We don’t know who these individuals are or where they are from,” said Marko Van Huigenbos, one of the main organizers at the blockade.

“Due to being infiltrated by a group with violent intentions, we have decided to go on our terms,” said organizer Marko Van Huigenbos.

“They brought guns into our community. We cannot let that be louder than our message. We will roll out of here peacefully.

“We can’t control all the people joining us. We had a tough call to make and I feel we made the right one.”
