Sorry, I can't help you, as much as i'd like to, I also tried to get train information on this
forum and got no replies.
My husband and I are interested in travelling from vancouver to halifax or somewhere else,on the east coast, whatever train trips to the east coast are the nicest, and I want to know more about the eastern trips.

I know it goes from vanc'r to toronto, then another train from toronto to montreal, then
another from montreal to halifax, but I wonder if there are more interesting trips than
the one from montreal to halifax, so I guess that is where our stories combine, as I
know nothing about the eastern trips.

Both of you have summed up quite nicely why passenger rail service in Canada has died. True, it isn't as convenient as the car or as fast as air, but if you don't advertise, you get lost in the shuffle. Take it easy when you travel. Take the train....

Woof!

Go Gray Coach and Leave the Driving to Us.

I wonder if they still use that? It was good.

I think Gray Coach is part of Greyhound now. Bus is a very poor choice. Who wants to ride with their knees under their chin all across a continent? Train, you have wide asiles, lots of space to stretch, comfie fat-ass seats - and a view outside uncluttered bymailboxes, billboards and McDonalds restaurants.

Whoo whoo-ooo!

Hell Wolf I actually meant to say Greyhound. It was, Go Greyhound and Leave the Driving to Us. And they had that nice elongated doggie on the side of the coach.

It's been years. It used to be an adventure to take either or. I think it would be cool to take the train cross-country. I don't know how my stomach would handle that rocking motion though. And the food is super expensive. I think those long trips they try to do the "fine dining" presentation with the white tablecloth etc.

I just checked the bus logo.... still the same picture but tarted up a bit with the nice silver colour.... http://www.greyhound.ca/

The train is more expensive, but it is a treat, not a necessity, or a trip as cheap as one can
make it.
It's all about comfort, history and actually experiencing how big our country really is, from
coast to coast.
The bus just wouldn't do it for me.

I love trains, I take the Northlander to my cottage sometimes and I take the train to Quebec two or three times a year. If you have the chance however take the train to B.C., you won't believe yours eyes at the Burty.

Backwater, Ontario.
Never have been East on the train, but used to take the run up to Sudbury from Ottawa, years ago. In the dome car. Met some great people. Great scenery. No more.

Kinda sad.

you must be from Saint John. I took the railway years ago (from Saint John) to Toronto but only remember how dark and white (snow) the scenery was during that time of year (winter). I think if you look at the hours of operation, that time of year you would be travelling through Quebec during nightfall and won't see much.

my wife and I did exactly that about 10 years ago, except we went to TO. Had to drive to Moncton, of course. Arrive in Montreal in the morning, switch trains. The return trip was a cluster ****. CN track workers went on strike, and it was announced just before we arrived in Montreal, that there would be NO MORE TRAINS. We were supposed to wait some random time for BUSES back to Moncton. I booked plane tickets home for the next day, my wife got a hotel room upstairs at the QE, we flew back home the next day (the plane stopped in Saint John, but since our car was in Moncton, we had to keep going, ironically)...and, in the end, VIA woulnd't do **** all for us, because it wasn't their fault.

Last time I rode VIA.
