Tory senator Lynn Beyak loses committee jobs, keeps caucus spot after controversial letter

OTTAWA — Controversial Conservative Sen. Lynn Beyak has been removed from all Senate committees following remarks about First Nations which have been widely condemned.
Beyak remains a member of the Conservative caucus, but has lost her spots on the Senate’s agriculture, defence and transportation committees.
Sen. Larry Smith, the leader of the Conservatives in the Senate, says in a statement today the decision is an internal party matter and Beyak has been given guidelines going forward.
He did not elaborate on those guidelines and says he considers the matter closed.
Beyak issued a letter earlier this month calling for First Nations people to give up their status cards in exchange for a one-time cash payment and said they could then practise their culture “on their own dime.”
She was removed from the Senate aboriginal affairs committee by former party leader Rona Ambrose in the spring after she said more good than bad happened at residential schools and that people were focusing too much on the abuse rather than the positive impact the schools had.

Sen. Lynn Beyak has been kicked out of the Conservative caucus because of letters posted to her Senate website deemed racist by Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer and others.

Beyak had posted roughly 100 letters in support of her earlier defence of residential schools to her personal Senate website, where some 6,000 Indigenous children died from malnutrition and disease.

In a statement, Scheer said he had asked Beyak to remove some of the comments but she refused.

Beyak "admitted that she intentionally posted racist correspondence about Indigenous Canadians to her Parliamentary website," the statement reads.

"As a result of her actions, the Conservative Senate Leader Larry Smith and I have removed Senator Lynn Beyak from the Conservative National Caucus.... Promoting this comment is offensive and unacceptable for a Conservative Parliamentarian."

The statement went on to say, "Racism will not be tolerated in the Conservative Caucus or Conservative Party of Canada."

Beyak rose to notoriety in the spring of 2017 after saying there were positives that came out of Canada's residential school system. She also landed in hot water for urging First Nations people to exchange their status cards "for a Canadian citizenship."

Beyak had already been removed from all Senate committees for her comments.

Oddly enough the real reason this woman got herself axed was for letting public comments on her webpage.

And you know who made all the comments that ended up in her getting shit canned?

All the same idiots who insist on being allowed to say whatever stupid shit comes to them in the name of free speech are in reality the ones who make sure that free speech cannot exist.

It's funny how the lefties see me as radically right and the social conservatives see me as a radical lefty. I must be doing something right.

Hoid-

80% of the people you have on 'ignore' are smarter than you. It speaks volumes about your poor instincts and general lack of intelligence.

Most of the things Beyak said were completely correct, but unfortunately it was not Politically correct to say correct things about the Natives.

Yes it was not so much about what she said it was about the random public comments she let stay up.

So that means that what she did was correct, Flossy. I can't recall ever seeing a post you made that was based in reality or even properly rebutted. You're the perfect gauge. You, and OB.

Beyak losing her status is akin to Al Franken resigning in the States. Both have done nothing wrong, but each are being asked to fall on their swords for the betterment of the Party...simply because they both created poor perception.

Apparently telling the truth or being a normal human being makes you unfit for Office nowadays.

So much for free speech.
Exactly.

SO much for ever being able to have civil discourse on important subjects because:

Then leave.
I have the feeling you need to be ignored.

DO you understand that your knee jerk reactions to everything that is said contributes zero to my store of wisdom.

YOu are quickly becoming a tiresome hectoring little twit.

I think that store has been under renovations since you arrived on this forum. Please let us all know when the grand opening occurs.

We now live in a society that will destroy you if your opinion runs contrary to public trends. Lynn Beyak strikes me as one of those religious folks who think that if there was a hint of Christianity in there, then it couldn't have been all bad. I mean sure, kids were molested and beaten and even murdered, but they were also getting a bit of scripture along the way and after all, the Lord has a plan.

There is a kernel of truth in everything. Whether it's commentary on Muslim practice, or aboriginal corruption or black youth crime. The problem is, people who express views about these issues tend to become a lightening rod for the extreme. You need only to look at a thread on a controversial subject like Trump and you'll be guaranteed to see the most extreme.

In my opinion, Lynn Beyak is either extremely naive or blatantly racist.

She should be turfed from the senate.

Interesting that her postings are 'bad' enough to get her kicked out of Caucus but not removed as a Senator.......
