Why does this matter? It matters because instead of hoping for a split, the Jays just might have been looking for their 3rd win of the series.
Rock on Greg.............boy did he ever deliver. Lack of accountability. Players are sent back to the minors when they need a refresher, why aren't umpires? They aren't held to the same level as players, coaches, managers and others are held. While all those just mentioned must answer to the media for their mistakes, umpires never appear before the media and thus never have to explain why they failed in their duty. The only consequence for their failures, the possibility of no post-season work.
"There was no justification for Carapazzo's performance on Friday night"
"Intervention is needed."
It's Tulo Bobble Head Day in the park as the Jays get set to play the last and hopefully best game of their series with the Cleveland Indians and it is a great day in the park. The roof is open, the sun is shining and the stands are packed to the rafters.
1 out, Kipness reaches second on a ball to the right field wall
After pushing the count to 3 and 2, Happ strikes out Lindor for 2 away bringing Napoli to the plate
Napoli flies out to Michael and the Indians are retired
Zeke Carrera pops up to the right-field baseline - 1 away
Josh gets a base hit to left field that streaks right by Ramiraz .........heh, heh, heh
Edwin just misses a homer over the back wall - 2 away
Michael Saunders doubles to 2nd and sends Josh to third - beauty down the left-field line to the corner
Russel Martin homers way over the backfield wall, scores Josh and Michael and just like that the Jays have 3 on the board. 3 runs on 4 hits after Barney singles to right. It's that old 2 and 0 magic again.
Smoakie strikes out and the inning is over.............good start for the Jays and gives JA a bit of breathing room.
Batter pops out to Tulo for an easy out at first - 1 down
Happ strikes out Ramirez on a high fast ball - 2 down
Another short hop to Tulo and the 3rd batter is retired - good inning for JA
Junior with a lead-off single
Ball 4 to Darwin - Junior advances to 2nd
Sacrifice bunt by Zeke - Junior to 3rd, Darwin to 3rd - mission accomplished
They are going to walk Josh and load the bases for Edwin
Edwin strikes out and it's 2 down bases still loaded for Michael
Michael goes down swinging leaving the bases loaded - should have got at least another run in there Jays
Gibbons must be pretty happy with his starting pitcher so far, as Happ strikes out the Indians in order to end that inning.........now the bats really do need to come to the plate and reward that delivery.
Martin caught at 1rst on single to the SS.
Kudos to the umps in this game. They've been right on with their calls so far.
Tulo with a nice single to centerfield after getting a break on a high foul ball that Santana just missed catching
Kubler - Indian's pitcher is at 73 pitches and counting in the 3rd - the batters are making him work - and he just walked Junior
The Jays were the only team in the AL to win yesterday.
He's thrown 8 pitches to Barney so far
Full count on Darwin
Darwin gets caught looking, the Jays are retired stranding 2 batters on base.
JA gives up a hit then strikes out the next two batters, including Napoli. 3 up, 3 down
JA's strike-out pitch to Napoli was only his 48 of the game. I'd say the Jays are winning the pitcher battle, now if the batters could get some more runs on the board.
Kubler grants Zeke a lead-off walk.............he's over 90 pitches now
Josh with a bullet makes first as Zeke goes to 3rd
First mistake behind the plate for the ump.......it was in the Jay's favour.
Edwin flies out to center but Lindor slips as he catches the ball and Zeke makes it home safely
Saunders doubles to right, makes it easily to second and Josh rambles to 3rd.
Kubler is out of the game
Martin walks - bases loaded for Tulo
Chamberlain at the mound for Cleveland
Tulo picks up the RBI scoring Josh on a high fly to right after going to a full count and just missing a grand slam by a hair.
Missed the last and final at bat for the Jays..........but they do get another point on the board.
5th inning coming up
Santana with a lead-off double off the back wall
Lake snags a foul right by the wall in front of the stands for the 1rst out, Santana makes 3rd on the play
8th strike out for JA - 2 away
3 out on a short hop to Josh for an easy throw to first
Jays are averaging the highest attendance records in the AL - great for their coffers
Junior Lake singles out to first
Santana off the bag for the catch and Barney safe on first after a single - should have been an easy out
Barney caught stealing though ..........darn it.
Zeke takes a nice little walk to 1rst with 2 away
Josh has driven in 71 runs so far which moves him ahead of Mookie Betts and he will take a walk
Jays leave a pair after Edwin flies out to center.
JA sets a new season-high 9 strike-outs for 1 away
Buck is really impressed with JA, he keeps talking about all the quality pitches he's thrown in the game. Tulo and Michael almost collide chasing a fly ball. Tulo comes up with the catch for the 3rd out. Happ still below 70 pitches.
Indians have another pitcher on the mound - didn't catch his name yet but he threw six pitches to Michael before walking him on the 7th
and goes on to walk Russell too
Full count, nobody out, 2 runners for Tulo
