R.A. gets his first strike out of the game............must mean he was just warming up, eh. :p

Two questions: What does it mean 'to make it rain'........I see signs all over the ball park with that phrase on them. And, one of the announcers mentioned the Jays could secure a wild card spot with a win tonight. What if they, heaven forbid, lost every game after this? Do they still retain their spot?

To secure a wildcard, Jays have to win and Minnesota AND California need to lose. Jays have won. Minnesota is tied with Detroit currently and California. The reason it is those teams is because they are 1.5 games behind Houston for the final wildcard spot. Jays could lose and as long as they finish above them, they are good. So Jays magic number is 1 now for wildcard. And that means worst case, we would play a tiebreaker game.

Not sure what the make it rain is for.

The wildcard game is one game only where winner gets the right to play in the 7 game series. A lot more risk of getting knocked out.

Official term is Wildcard Game presented by Budwiser. Please get with the heavily sponsored program.

First round is 5 games.

Tigers winning now.

Yankees losing 5-2 heading to bottom of the 9th.

Tigers have won, Yankees have lost.

California is winning in the 1st 4-1.

Googing Bringer of Rain, this is how Josh refers to himself. It goes back to Oakland. Here is the best link to describe it I think:

I assume that since that article is not a picture, the https should be ok?

Second game of the series today. David Price will be facing his former protégé Chris Archer. Archer is 12-12 with a 2.92 ERA. David is 8-1 with a 1.95 ERA in 10 starts for the AL East-leading Blue Jays.

The magic number is 1 but I was just reading, the Jays have already clinched at least a wildcard. This is because California and Houston have 74 losses, Rangers have 69. These 3 teams are playing each other several times. There is no combination that at least 1 of those teams will not have 75 losses when done. That 75th loss will give the Jays a wildcard even if they don't win another game,

Could be a low scoring game.

Jays are only 6-8 this year against Tampa (2-4 @ Tampa, 4-4 in Toronto). And Tampa has always been a thorn in Jays side.

Things have changed a bit since then, IRBS................they now lead by only 1 run. David having a bit of a shaky 3rd inning. We need more runs....................Lots more runs.

I wonder if he has that bug the announcers were talking about.

New prediciton: Jays 13, Tampa 10.

Considering we are only in the 4th.............you may not be far off, IRBS.

I don't think David is going to be in for 7 innings .............he's thrown a lot of pitches all ready. He had a better trip to the mound this inning........the homerun was what it was and we are still up 2. Now we need a Grand Slam.......LET'S GO BLUE JAYS. LET'S GO!

Thank you Ryan

Woooo Hoooo Kevin! Bye Bye Archer.

Going into the 5th, Jays lead 9 - 5

Maybe he will last...........that was a great inning for David........though he is closing on 100 quickly.

Jay's going to the bull pen. David threw 95 pitches. Hawkins in.

Astro's over Ranger 5 - 4 in the 6th.

7 pitches and the Rays are back on the field.............good inning for Hawkins and we finally got a double play.

Aaron Loup to the mound for the Jays in the 7th.

Loup gets the first out then Liam Hendrix goes to the mound for the Jays.

Liam takes care of the next two batters and we are off to the bottom of the 7th.

6 - 4 Astros lead over Rangers.

Sanchez in top of the 8th.

Three up, three down on 8 pitches by Aaron Sanchez.

JOEY BATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............3 more to go, IRBS.

The Astros are setting up to be a sad story. They were worst last season. Looked like a Cinderella division winner this year. But its all falling apart for them this September. They have lost the division lead and look to have a good chance to lose their wildcard hold.

If this is a 3-game series and the Jays win this game, they will have a lock on the series, right?

In the second half, the Jays in every single category.............that number counters care about.

Ryan Tepera at the mound for the Jays in the 9th.

Yes, they will win the series but that really doesn't mean much. Its wins at this point. The series idea is just a way of keeping expectations grounded.

Gotcha..........we need a sweep.

Tepera out after putting two batters on base, mind you an error by Smoak helped with the last one. Cecil in.

Cecil gives up a base and he's out. Osuna is in.

Gotcha..........we need a sweep.

Assuming they hang on today, they will need 5 more wins (or Yankees losses) to win division. They need 1 more win than KC for homefield overall. They also need 4 fewer losses than Texas to secure home field for division series. But wins work for all scenarios.

Oh, oh...........tieing run just came to the plate with only one out.

That was a wee bit too close for comfort but the Jays take it - their 89th win of the season. Final: 10 -8

Sox are 1 up on the Yanks in the first with A-Rod coming to the plate.
