Flossy's paramour announced to the press that he would support it when it first came out... Later he thought better of it and recognized it as an opportunity to drive the majority of women from voting for the Libs by virtue of pretending it was a women's rights issue

On that note, the usual suspects still don't really understand how politics or negotiations really work... Table a proposal that is way over the top and let the useful idiots beat their chests over it.

... A slight (if not minor) alteration is all it takes to pass a bill that achieves far more than Harper had ever hoped for

Lol, I was wondering if anyone would ever mention this. :)

Sigh, Captain perhaps if it's broken down a little. Let's call it "The Broccoli Principle". See if you want your kids to eat their broccoli, you simply tell them they have to eat the broccoli and their brussel sprouts. Negotiations typically begin immediately on the brussel sprouts and, after much back and forth, swagger and swoon, you magically "give in" that, yes, they can just eat the broccoli.

Voila. Works every time. Except if you have a freakish first born like I did who actually requested brussel sprouts. Then you have to get creative. ;)

Not if you make 'em right, they can be quite tender.

They do stink though, I have to give you that one.

Just because something is "tender" does not take away the fact that it is gross, inedible, and stink.

You see SLM, much like a 5 year old, that same trick works on an ideologue in the same manner.

The 'bait' (as it were) may change from brussel sprouts to something else, but the identical principle applies.

... Failing that, I believe that jangling some cars keys in their direct line of sight will effectively quell their misspent angst

Don't you worry about low oil prices-our govt is working hard 24/7 to get it back up to really high costs. There has never been anything better than war for property destruction and getting rid of a glut of cheap oil.
My Dad said we should have started WW2 earlier cause everybody was dirt poor after the 1929 crash, lived thru the "dirty thirties"barely getting fed.
Kind Mr. Hitler started his "urban renewal" and presto! Everybody had new shiny guns, uniforms, good food and beer.
However Dad was hard to please as when he came back from 5 years of fighting,he was mad at all the war profiteers selling ,chemicals, steel and other goods to the enemies we were fighting. Oobla di-oobla daahhh!

love it. If the tories push it through as is, which they can if they wanted to, they get shyte on. If they listen and make some amendments, they get shyte on.

So, tell me, how do you want the Tories to run Parliament?

Each to their own, lol. I learned to enjoy them. It's more the harvest and root vegetables I'm not a big fan of.

Nothing in this world was ever improved by adding cheez whiz. 8O
I know what cheese is and i know what whiz is but it sounds to me like they should never be "put" together.

Well surprise, surprise, it was a false flag after all.

The other day it looked like Stephen Harper had surrendered to reason, by finally agreeing to change his police state bill C-51.

Even though him and his Cons had claimed, or squawked for weeks, that it was perfect and if you didn't like it you must be a terrorist.

But now the experts have taken a closer look at those proposed changes, and sure enough they are just an illusion.

First the good: it is helpful that the proposed changes will now exclude from the national security information sharing regime protests of all sort, and not just protest complying with each and every regulatory law. The amendments will also temper language that might have authorized further sharing of information to “anyone”, including in disregard of security caveats attached to that information.

By buffing it up with spit and shinola, while keeping its monstrous heart intact. So it still gives CSIS too much power, including the apparent right to run secret prisons.

The government’s peculiar language does precisely nothing to dispel concerns about a system of CSIS “security detention” or “detention for security interrogation.” Given the disturbing experience in other jurisdictions after Sept. 11, 2001, the absence of an express, emphatic bar on detention is alarming.

It still does nothing to make
us safer...

No, it's supposed to make Harpo's corporate masters feel safer at our expense. That us what police states are all about. Heave Steve!
