Australian Conservative PM gets kicked out office

A preview for Harper if he makes it through the election?

Australian prime minister ousted in internal party challenge

CANBERRA, Australia -- Australia's beleaguered prime minister has been ousted from his position by an internal government challenge and the party's former leader has been elected to replace him.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott lost a leadership ballot by members of his conservative party on Monday following the second challenge to his position this year. The change in leadership comes as the 2-year-old conservative coalition government struggles in opinion polls.

Liberal Party whip Scott Buchholz told reporters that lawmakers voted 54 to 44 to replace Abbott with his chief rival, Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The vote continues an extraordinarily volatile period in Australian politics. Turnbull becomes Australia's fourth prime minister in just over two years.

Australia has a new prime minister after Tony Abbott lost a leadership challenge.

Malcolm Turnbull defeated Mr Abbott 54-44 in a Liberal Party ballot and will become the country's 29th prime minister.

Mr Abbott had faced months of bad opinion polls and growing discontent in his party.

Pathetic. A story that has absolutely nothing to do with the Canadian govt and you STILL need to make it about Harper. So much for any objectivity you may think you have.

Abbott had all the goodwill in the world when he took over and then he turned left and the Aussies went berserk. Good thing he's gone.

Isn't that like Manitoba being voted leader of the Prairie Provinces when Sask lost that role?
Perhaps he knew the next leader in power when the ship sank was in deep dodo so they had a new Captain just in time.

SO) the labour party has made a right turn?

The British elite are in a state of panic. A popular man has got the rabble all worked up, the new guy has suggested forgetting austerity and is promoting the idea of taxing the guts out of the upper class snobs. A bit late but nevertheless. Blair should hide somewhere.
