As it turns out, thankfully, it was not much of an event. More like a test run of our systems in real time. 22 cm in Long Beach, and 27 cm in Winter Harbour. I haven't heard about Pr Rupert yet, but I had a busy morning. Nothing on the local news anyway.

It sounds like nothing but scale it. 27cmx27cmx27cm (approx 11"x11"×11") of water weighs 10.34lbs.

Now put that in motion. Tsunamis can travel at the speed of sound. I have no idea of the speed of this one but Force = Mass X Acceleration.

10.34lb at 5mph would knock you flat on your ass. Imagine 600mph with "just" 27cm.

No worse than a wave that size. It didn't seem to have damaged any boats along the coast. I flew over one at Pt Hardy back in the 80s. It was around 12 cm. Looked like a ripple from 100 ft up. About half the town went out to Pecker Point to watch the tidal wave go by. Didn't seem very smart to me, but maybe Darwin and Mr. Murphy were sleeping that day.
