Virtually every Army in the world used a form of "Comic Book" instruction manual for some thing. The Panther was, by far, the best tank manufactured during WWII.

The Germans problem was that they kept changing things, creating new and more complex tanks, instead of just sticking with a winning formula. Thank God they did, because if they had just stuck with the Panther, they would have won a LOT more battles than they did.

The Germans did have the best tanks and there was a lot of variety in their armor. The Panther was better than any of the Allies tanks but arguably the Tiger was a better tank. However the Tiger was so complex it was more prone to mechanical failures than the Panther variants. A tank breaking down on the battlefield is just as good as a hit if it can't be recovered.

It was all about numbers in WWII. A Tiger or Panther could easily outmatch the Soviet T-34 or Sherman tank one of one... even two to three on one. But when the Allies were throwing hundreds of these tanks at the Germans it became a war of attrition.

I saw on the Military Channel and I believe they gave the Soviet T-34 the top billing for the best tank of all time.

Was that a good tank Wolf? I remember reading a memoir of a Churchill tank commander but he operated in a tank-flamethrower unit.

No matter how good the panzers were, they weren't worth much without fuel.I believe I read that they lost between a third and ahalf to plain old running out of gas.

Lousy-armoured, poorly-armed and miserable to service - but, man, could it ever handle less-than-flat terrain

It's amazing how any of the Anglo Allied armor stood up to German tanks at all. The Panzers and Tigers chewed up the Sherman. It is just that there were so many more Shermans at the end.

The Germans overbuilt their tanks- thus slowing production. Tank Commanders on the Russian front had demanded wider tracks for better stability on wet ground. Turned down by Krupp -
In the end it was Western industrial might, logistics and the ability to mass produce weapons- ships- and such.
