No you deal with it, re-read your post you sound like the "Pampered spoon fed over subsidized snot noses that you are". The rest of Canada is fed up with you dirty diapers and your tantrums of we want "Special Status" blah blah. Special, there's nothing special about Quebec-nothing at-all. Quebec Speratists movement is a "JOKE", a bunch of University Students and Old Hippys-as for flaring up? That I'd like to see. What are they going to do? Remember Quebec isn't know for it's "Fighting Spirit" remember World War two?
Regarding Independance versus Seperation rather arragant of you to "Assume" we'd let you decide isn't it, did it occur to you that the Rest of Canada might have a say in what happens should Quebec "Try" and leave Canada? You do know there'd be no more Federals Jobs, no crossing at Hull to go to work everyday those Jobs are for "Canadian Citizens" not Quebecs. Then theres the National Debt, that is really going to cripple a "Free" Quebec. The list is endless. Mean while here in the East we are enjoying our "Little Oil" boom, someone has to pay for all those cheap Child Care spots in Quebec . Sassy bending down hands S_lone his sookie back, nap time sunshine.
Sassylassie, I don't want to start a bitter argument. But some things you say just convince me you don't know understand much about Quebec's independence movement. Is Quebec's independance movement a "joke" because it has a very non-violent history? Is it a "joke" because the YES side lost by 1% 11 years ago? Is it a "joke" because Quebec's not signed onto the Constitution?
Saying the independance movement is only about hippies and university students just demonstrates your ignorance on the subject. Independance movements are found everywhere even where you live. Starting with family, neigborhoods and cities going to countries like Canada, communities usually tend to work hard to maintain some form of power over the matters that concern them. Nations are just big communities with common laws and cultural heritage (although this is a lot fuzzier today...).
Whether you see us as a nation or not, we will act like a nation, in or out of Canada. You misunderestimate the intelligence of Quebecers if you believe we don't know about what kind of consequences could follow the seperation of Quebec from Canada. For a great majority of Quebecers this issue is a very serious one no one takes it litely. You may perceive us as being whiny but the rest of Canada has the responsibility to be clear as to what it expects from Quebec. If Canada believes Quebec has gone too far in its demands or actions, it must speak out. Many Canadians outside Quebec need to understand the fact that in Quebec's francophone culture, the concept of Canada is not as personal as it can be in any other part of the country. Canada is seen as an union, be it economic, social, cultural etc. They want a Canada that is a true confederation and not a federation. The powers we want we expect every province to have... As long as we feel in control of what's going on in Quebec. That's all there is to it. Right now Quebec is part of Canada and it's fine that way. But Quebec can change and so can Canada; we all change eventually and I'm very happy that where I live, there is an evolving political debate on "independance".
Quebec is not asking for a "special" status. It is asking for QUEBEC'S status plain and simple.
