The Evil Empire
I dont think arguing for a President or a monarchy is arrogant. Its more what each is used to or preferrs. Neither one is right, and neither is wrong.

I would hate to have a President, I much prefer a PM who has to ask the Queen every time he wants to do something. But others think that is a waste of time, why have the Queen there? Why not just remove her and let the PM make all the decisions?

Its a battle that neither America nor Britain will win. The reason is that we are both right. We both have what we think is best for us.

Long live the Queen.

I never once compared the monarchy to our system of government. I was accused of not knowing why I dislike monarchs, simply because I'm American. I know dam well why I don't.

Fair enough, one mans trash is another mans gold.

Why dont you like the modern monarchy? (I get why you didn't like ones in the "old day" who ruled with an iron fist with nobody in mind but themselves)

The monarchy is an archaic tribal hereditary system of privilege born out of a pair of sheets.

Right ON!

While the American presidency is the product of violent insurrection complete with witch-hunts and *****dom as its basic principles.

Politicians are a lower life form because that's the way "democracies" have shaped them since the beginning. Monarchies are akin to the ramble heard sometimes in Tennesse and West Virginia..."my pappy is my brother an my mom is my sister....

Monarchy presidency dictatorship its all a load of bull.

Apparently the censor at Canadian Content has decided that the word for an individual that sells their sexual services (or in the case of politicians ethics and morals) for a fee is a word that innocent Canadian eyes shouldn't have to struggle with....

What arrogance!

considering that the forum has recently been changed to a new system, it may be that the censorship is set to some kind of default setting. I can think of places where avoiding all words like that would be advisable. Imagine for instance that this forum were full of total idiots who, when their viewpoint was challendged, immediately replied with a string of abuse including various comments about the original poster's mother.

fortunately this forum comprises mainly of clever people and adults who can handle words like wh0re. I assume that's what you were trying to write?

I think that anyone who wants to be an MP, PM or President is just a power hungry person with no interest in the people that they serve.

Queen Lizzie did not ask to be Queen. She was lucky/unlucky enough to be born into it. I think that someone like that it likely to do a better job than a power hungry person with only their own interests at heart.

Being Queen is hardly an easy job. And if she doesnt like it, she cant just hand her notice in. Its a job for life whether she wanted to do it or not. I think that a person in this situation does a much better job that someone seeking power and fame.

Queen or Preident? - Queen every time for me. Though I can see your arguments against.

Hey, hey, lets not get nasty, just because you don't understand what I "ramble" about. What do you mean by "I would doubt not that you would be a card carrying member of the Rhino party"? What does "I would doubt not" mean? Is that proper english?

Yes, yes it is. You really should try using it some time.

I do. And to correct you're English, I think you meant "I wouldn't doubt that you would be a card carrying member of the Rhino party".

You are so right, but I do not like using lazy contractions, like wouldn't, shouldn't. "I would doubt not" or "I would not doubt" are just as suitable. As I write for a couple puplications and do get so tired of using the same old lines, over and over. I tend to use old english and new, just for the fun of it.

And no, I ment to say "I would doubt not"

Ha, ha laughing at that.

Now what about Canada do I not like today? Buckleys cough medicine, it's nastyyyyyyyyyy stuff but yes it does work but I'm to afraid to swallow it. I just stare at the bottle in fear. I dislike people who wonder into a thread and act like the spelling police, it's childish and immature. Not everyone has the urge to be perfect on a forum. I's sumetimes spells realy badely, but's I's talks with and assent thats a little bit likes a Scotish lispssssssssssssssssss.

The monarchy is an archaic tribal hereditary system of privilege born out of a pair of sheets.

Well....

1. American's are not arrogant, they tend to be ignorant though.

2. It's simple brain washing ITN, you've been brainwashed since an early age to believe that you are right and that my country is wrong, your government is right and mine is wrong. And because you currently have the title "hyperpower" you generally feel your style of governmnet is better than mine.

A monachy holds no power, it's a respect for tradition ITN, that is all. Of course it developed from the fudal tribal leaders into a quasi-dictatorship, but that was removed. Not by the people but by the rich land Barrons. But I admit to this, will you admit your country did not remove itself from the monachy not by the people but by the wealthy elite trying to make a buck?...no

that's the difference. You always feel your opinion must be right and that any other is simply wrong out of hand.

Ignorance isn't applied to a passport Daz. I've said my piece in detail why I don't like monarchs. I'm not repeating it unless you have something to say, equally in detail.

Im gonna be pro-monarch for the simple reason that it is a good idea politically.

The monarchs have dejure power, but no defacto power. Further more they are shared. Meaning a Monarch making a cooky powerplay in one country will be abolished in 15 more, a veritable mineshaft canary.

Compare that with Presidents, who the world over, seem primarily aimed at forming dictatorships.

Nothing bothers me about Canada. Well maybe the extremes in temperature we've been having over the past ten years... And the fact that Canadians can't seem to function without parking for a little while in a Tim Horton's drive-through...and then of course there's gladitorial demonstrations on ice that everyone pretends is about somehing other than bloodlust....then there's the ....well never mind....

everyone needs their bloodlust satisfied. Remember "gladiators"? Any game where there's a chance someone's face will get smashed is fine by me. As long as there are idiots willing to risk playing it i'll watch it. So much better than football

Things I don't like about Canada

Well, in general this is a great country, but there are things I either don't like or drag us down as a nation.

Quebec..not the people but the political system there. Corupt politics is at a whole new level inside Quebec. Most of the talk for separation is just for Politic gain at the expence of the rest of the country.

Toronto...The power base of our country for sure, however, it is NOT the center of the Universe and does not hold the exclusive rights as to the opinions of the nation..there are other people out there.

Mushy Middle..our greatest downfall, As Canadians we seem to never want to confront or take charge, just complain. We would like the troups to be pulled from far away but never consider what we should do. As long as we aren't American we are happy..there's more to life!!!

This is a great country with a great future if only we would develop a backbone and take charge..If you don't like something get out htere and try to change it.

The worse expression I hear so often in Canada is

1." there should be a law"
2. "It's the law"
and 3. "Somebody should do something about it"

"Them and They" don't exist..It's YOU and US..It's our nation, if you don't like something stand up and say so, then tell me what you want to do..

My little rant :)

Toronto reflects the opinions of ALL of Canada. Toronto is a beacon in a otherwise dull country. :):p:D
