Meh…Trump is just flipping a coin repeatedly, and this is just the latest excuse because it’s convenient.
Two goals. . . one is a probably vain attempt to stem the rising support for a Palestinian state, and the other is reduce the flow of goods and comedians from Canada to the U.S., supposedly to incentivize building facilities and JAWBS! in the U.S.

Well, and seeking revenue for the tax cuts, especially since his shithead followers will actually believe Canada is paying for the tariffs.

The United States will impose a 50% tariff on copper pipes and wiring, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, but details of the levy fell short of the sweeping restrictions expected and left out copper input materials such as ores, concentrates and cathodes.

U.S. Comex copper futures plunged 19.5% after the announcement, quickly unwinding a premium over the London global benchmark that had grown in recent weeks as traders had assumed U.S. copper mines would see a financial benefit from the tariff.

"Copper is being imported into the United States in such quantities and under such circumstances as to threaten to impair the national security of the United States," Trump said in his proclamation. Ya think? Try aluminum….steel? Lumber? Potash? Heavy Crude? Etc…
(The move is essentially a boost to Chile and Peru, two of the world's largest copper miners)

Trump said he may (so also may not?) still impose further tariffs, and has asked Lutnick to provide an update on the domestic copper market by June 2026. At that point, Trump will evaluate whether to impose a phased universal import duty on refined copper of 15% starting in 2027, and of 30% starting in 2028, etc…he said.
From my reading this morning, scrap copper is also exempt, which apparently is more than half the copper exported to the US. The article made no mention of copper ore.

Trump's got the whole world jumping through its own asshole. I just hope his interests (as he perceives them) remain roughly aligned with the country's interests.
It does, sort of. Trump is right that to remain a wealthy, healthy nation, manufacturing must be returned to North America. I disagree with most of his tactics, but trying to undo 30 or 40 years of bad public policy is not going to be easy.

Ford should have secured an internet deal by now for those in northern and rural Ontario, said New Democrat and Official Opposition Leader Marit Stiles

“What is the premier’s plan to deliver on this promise to Ontarians? Handing over hard-earned tax dollars to Elon Musk’s company was never the right approach,” she said.

“Months have passed and we still don’t have a plan or even a process that’s calling for home-grown solutions.”
Being outside of the Toronto-Ottawa area is much like being in any western province. Nobody in power cares what you need or want.

In politics, a lie is better than the truth if you can get someone to believe it.
Besides, a lot of Canadians are convinced we will be paying the tariffs on products we export.

Look at Trump. He's the ultimate big-dick pill salesman. Stupid men think he'll return the U.S. to the economy of the 50s, and stupid women think he's a nice, churchgoing Christian.

Compare to his track record of failed businesses, failed marriages, and utter indifference to anything Jesus is reported as ever saying.

Hell, I remember the furor over whether Reagan, as a divorced man, was fit to be President. We were so innocent then.

In a post on social media early Thursday morning, the president said it will be very hard to make a deal with Canada after Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday Ottawa intends to recognize a Palestinian state, not that that has anything at all to do with trade between Canada and the US, but it’s the most recent thing to point at…

Trump previously sent a letter to Carney threatening to impose 35 per cent tariffs if Canada doesn't make a trade deal by Friday…but who’s actively searching for a reason not to make the deal by tomorrow?

Raygun was not fit to be Prez. But it had nothing to do with him being divorced.

Who cares about that shit ? I don’t need a saint , I need a pragmatic level headed manager . Why is that so terrible ?
