I'm sure the tow pilots would agree with you. The new pilots were supposed to be in a shallow dive onto the target which would put all rounds well under and away from the towing aircraft but if somebody held on the target too long, the angle got smaller and there was a chance he would either fly into the target, or put a round into the tow plane.

Light lubes help. Even wax helps.

Allox and bees wax is what a lot of people use, there's a product out though that was developed in the UK originally as a bearing lubricant and is nowused as a bullet treatment that I find works quite well called Fastex. There's no wax and gook left inside the barrel, and it doesn't lead up as fast either.
