The Stupidity That Was Canada's Single-Use Plastics Ban.

So the other day after a trip to the grocery store I had to laugh. Besides the usual 4L bag of milk we picked up some frozen fish fillets (among other foodstuffs). The fish was packaged in a plastic bag. We decided to cook them that evening for dinner and each fillet was individually sealed in its own plastic wrapper. So between the 4L bag of milk and the fish fillets there were TEN pieces of single-use plastic. But the plastic grocery bag I USED to be able to carry them home in was apparently killing the planet. Yet ironically those bags got more than one use in our household. Some got re-used for groceries. Some were used for cleaning the litter box. Some were used for household garbage in the bathrooms and bedrooms. Now, I gotta go buy a fucking BOX of single-use plastic household garbage bags for the latter two jobs.

And don't bother trying to bullshit me about those household garbage bags being biodegradable or something. They are only so when composted. Dropping them in a landfill still poses a micro-plastics problem since they won't fully biodegrade in a landfill.

Now I'm gonna smoke some weed that comes in a Govt approved single-use plastic pouch and ponder just how much our altruistic Prime Minister truly cares about the planet.

I have noticed a certain tendency of the Trudeau The Lesser government to do surgery with a meat-ax.

Selective plastic bans are very effective, not only in the large "save the planet" sense, but in reducing litter as well.

Key word is "selective."

This is a guy who despite the blunt force evidence that allowing addicts to use anywhere in public is NOT a good thing for anyone, he insists his govt is "following the science and will continue to follow the science". Some people can't accept reality. Trudeau outright refuses delivery of it.

The real irony is I'll bet smoking tobacco is coming under just as heavy fire up yonder as it is down hereabouts.

Is it $24 for a 25 pack?
About $18.25 in American dollars for comparison. Almost all of that’s tax’s.

Black market smokes are $6-$10/20 pack & those have been stepped on pricewise repeatedly before reaching the Prairies.

(last time I was in Cuba, cheapest pack of smokes converted to about $0.65 USD…but about 15yrs ago)

Last time I was in Mexico, I couldn’t even find a pack of Mexican Cigarettes (only American brands). Was told that the American tobacco companies paid Mexican tobacco farmers not to grow their own crops.
