The heavenly religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam started all the same as monotheistic: the First Commandment is their central axis.
- Then people, according to their wrong-doing, fell in the idolatry, polytheism and association with God.
Because of their wrong-doing God misleads them and drive them away from His mercy and grace.
E.g. – Children of Israel stole the gold ornaments of the Egyptians, the night of their Exodus; so this was the wrong with which they wronged the Egyptians (even though the Egyptians were idolaters and oppressors); therefore, this wrong-doing became an omen for them and they fell in the idolatry and worshipped the gold calf statue, 33 days following the departure of Moses: they served this idol for 7 days.
This is in the Quran 20: 87-88

The explanation:
(They said: "We did not fail in our tryst with you of our own accord, but we were loaded with the burdens of some of the ornament of the people [of Egypt], and we cast that [in the fire] as did the Samaritan throw [also in the fire.]"
Then he brought forth for them the image of a calf which lowed; so they said: "This is your god and the god of Moses, but [Moses] has forgotten.")

- God will let Satan and his devils have control over them, and he suggests to them to associate their prophets and righteous men with God Almighty, by the way of the enthusiasm about these prophets.
Satan will have authority over people because of their sins, and forgetting the remembrance of God – be glorified. This is in the Quran 3: 155
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْاْ مِنكُمْ يَوْمَ الْتَقَى الْجَمْعَانِ إِنَّمَا اسْتَزَلَّهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ بِبَعْضِ مَا كَسَبُواْ ...الخ
The explanation:
(Those among you who turned their backs [fleeing from the enemy] on that day [of Uhud] when the two hosts met [to fight]; it was only Satan that made them slip [from the correct conduct] because of something they had earned…etc.)

- There will be some advantages of some charlatan kings and religious men, and Satan will instruct such charlatan to invent some rites to glorify the prophets and righteous men; these charlatans will exploit the religion and stir the enthusiasm in people in order to gain some political and social advantage.
So Satan will suggest to the religious man to invent some additional rites that were not commanded by God, and by this way the original picture of the heavenly religion will be distorted from the pure devotion to God exclusively to some new sort of polytheism and association with God Almighty.
