This whole fiasco shows the depths of depravity to which humans can sink. And to cover it up under the guise of rehabilitation is insulting to catholics everywhere. Therefore I step back from the church and hurl barbs at the system every chance I get.

I just watched the movie Precious last night. For those who still support this type of behaviour check out this movie and educate yourself on the cruelty of child molestation.

Since Cardinal Ratzinger never did anything when he could have it looks like he's guilty

 you've already proven yourself to be a moron with no ability to think..... I'm now trying to determine of mt.pockets is in the same boat or has the ability for cognitive thought.

Question of loyalty?
The Cardinal held an office that dealt with the priests that gone bad and if he did his job like he was supposed to he would be protecting the church and the state.

Because of his inaction the RCC is fracturing and will crumble

Loyalty something you don't know? Sometimes it comes in being compelled to go against conscience and vote a party line. Sometimes it comes in a thick blue wall. Sometimes it comes in agreeing with your spouse because there'll be no nummies if you don't. It sucks ... but it happens.

For the record, Ratzinger should step down in an effort to preserve the integrity of the Church. Will he? Who decides?

You seem very good at obfuscating.

Be specific, who are you accusing of supporting child molesting?

You doth protest too much methinks.

Ok, first I had to look that word up. My apologies Gerry. I'm more accustomed to your usual diatribe of phuck, c*nt, shytehead...you know, the gutter language you seem to throw out here on a regular basis. Which leads me to ask this. How does your church deal with your language?

No, I'm not deflecting or obscuring here. It was a general comment. Obviously if there are still stories coming out of the catholic church then we have a serious problem here. As for your cognitive thought comment, I am not constrained in any way by organized religion so you can bet when I say something it's straight from the heart and not censured by any priest. I will say whats on my mind and child molestation is something that I will fight at every turn.

I am a former catholic who served as an alter boy for a couple of years back in the early 70's. I served with a priest who had to be 'rehabilitated' for his vile actions with some kids in our parish. Although he never touched me, it left me with a jaded opinion of the catholic church, especially given the subsequent horror stories that came out of Mount Cashel. You won't find me defending the catholic church in any way, shape or form. My sympathies to those who still do.

Still obfuscating. Answer the question directly.

As for those that seem to have a comprehension problem, or a major blind spot, like LW I feel the same. The RCC needs to do some major house cleaning, including IMO The Holy See stepping down for the good of the Church. I am not the only Catholic that feels this way. There are Bishops and Cardinals that also have this view.

That being said, I will NOT stand by and have the entire RCC tarred with the molestation brush.

There is an estimate that between 4 and 6% of Catholic priests have been involved with some type of pedarasty. With 750,000 priests worldwide the 40,000 figure is not out line with that. It could be however that this incidence is largely in the developed West. Pervasive social strictures against homosexuality in developing countries could mean it is much less prevalent there.

It should be noted that the whole Church is now moving to a One Strike policy.. one substantiated charge and you are defrocked, all charges are referred to local police for investigation and prosecution, no tolerance of cover-up of charges by superiors is acceptable.. at the cost of their jobs.

This was put in place in North America under the over all supervision of Cardinal Ratzinger, who as Prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith was responsible for supervision of Canon Law (laws affecting clerics) and its court system under JPII.

The Magisterium of the Church realizes that forces within and without the Catholic Church deeply antithetical to the conservative stance of Pope Benedict are using this to leverage agendas that include the end of priestly celibacy, the ordination of women, the 'decentralization' of Catholicism (including theology) to Lay Councils in parishes. None of those things will happen under Benedict.. in fact there is no chance that they will happen at all.

However placing the blame on the structure of the Church promotes these causes, which is why the Pontiff has become a target as the head of the Catholic Church. In actual fact these pedophiles would have found some other institution or opportunity to carry out their abuse, but there is no doubt a culture of arrogance and denial has afflicted the Church for a long time on this issue.

The Church has much more stringent admission requirements for the priesthood now, which includes psychological testing. And has implemented a strict oversight program of seminaries to ensure the exclusion of all those with homosexual tendencies.. from whence the large part of the problem originates.

I answered your damned question. Geez, you're always looking for the whipping boy.

Yeah, that's a wide brush alright. But you have to question how the flock can support such an organization when the evidence is so overwhelming. You know, God is not going to strike you dead if you call these basturds out. He might make a special place for you if you do stand up and expose them.

Of course you had to look up the word. Contrary to what my detractors like to spout, I am quite well educated and CHOOSE to use the language I sometimes use. NOT because I am uneducated.

As to what the Church, or individual Priests think of my lifestyle or how I speak, I really don't give a ****, anymore than I care what you or anyone else thinks of my lifestyle or choice of language. I have only one that I need worry about when it comes to judgment on my life.

Coldstream....defrocked might be a poor choice of words when talking about diddling little boys.

Let priests marry and a lot of these problems will go away.
