The only real surprise is just how quickly Liberal promises crumbled

And yet he's managed to accomplish so much in the promise-breaking dept in such a short time.

... It's gotta be some kind of record

Let's give that a real hard look, actually.

Promises completed
  • Cut middle-class tax bracket from 22.0% to 20.5%
  • Introduce new tax bracket of 33% for $200,000 or more
  • Revoke rules muzzling government scientists
  • Restore the mandatory long-form census
  • Introduce gender parity in the federal cabinet
  • Maintain Canada's participation in operations REASSURANCE and UNIFIER
Promises in progress
  • Cancel the Northern Gateway Pipeline
  • Implement recommendations of Cohen Commission on restoring salmon stocks in Fraser River
  • Reopen Maritine Rescue Sub-centre and the Kitsilano Coast Guard Base
  • Create merit-based appointments process for senators
  • Reverse plan to end door-to-door Canada Post delivery
  • Launch a national inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women
  • Lift Mexican visa requirements for travelers
  • Remove marijuana consumption and incidental possession from Criminal Code
  • Create federal-provincial task force on designing a marijuana sale/distribution system
  • Ending operation IMPACT (i.e., CF-18 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq)
  • Reduce procurement budget to replace CF-18s, and cancel F-35 purchases
  • Reopen 9 Veterans Affairs service offices
Promises broken
  • Welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees before the end of the calendar year

We do not yet know what the budget outlook is, because the Government has not tabled a budget. Again, this Government has only had the pleasure of meeting the House for seven business days; it looks, to me, like they are doing a damn good job. Maybe you don't agree with the promises they've made, but the fact is that this Government is actually being open and honest with Canadians.

The level of transparency and access that this Government is providing to us is so refreshing, especially in the wake of a previous administration that essentially shut down the press gallery's access to government. I look forward to seeing the Honourable Bill Morneau table the Liberals' first federal budget in the spring, and then we can really analyze the financial course of the country.

...the amount of mindless bleating about Trudeau breaking promises, after the House of Commons has sat for a whopping seven business days, is pretty amusing. There is only one promise that this Government has broken so far, and that is welcoming 25,000 Syrian refugees before the end of the calendar year. A federal budget has not even been tabled. The only financial decisions this Government has passed so far are to reduce the middle-class tax rate from 22% to 20.5%, and to introduce a new tax rate of 33% for folks making $200,000 or more per year. Two more promises kept.

Keep on keeping on, Mr. Trudeau.

I think you are half right- the other half is Justin is not terribly good at listening, he's trying to be all things to all people and he is on a very fast "learning curve". I'm not sure that "promises kept" can be counted if they are running us into unrecoverable debt. I think he possibly put winning the election above thinking things out more carefully and studying what we be the best for everyone in the long run. :)

If we want to talk about "unrecoverable debt," let's look to a few years under the Conservatives:
  • 2006: $13.8 billion (inherited from the Liberals)
  • 2007: $9.6 billion
  • 2008: ($5.8 billion) (uh-oh)
  • 2009: ($55.6 billion) (holy sh*t)
  • 2010: ($33.3 billion) (well, that's not balanced at all)
  • 2011: ($26.2 billion) (oh dear)
  • 2012: ($25.9 billion) (is it recoverable now?)
  • 2013: ($18.9 billion) (that's basically balanced, right?)
  • 2014: ($16.6 billion) (um...)

But that $160 billion that the Conservatives added to the debt... that's not "unrecoverable," right?

Not so much blind faith, as it is just looking at this Government's record since they took office.

Justine's record of selfies with strangers?

You needn't look further than trudeau Sr... We are (literally) still paying down that debt

Conbots disappointed about a promise they don't want kept.

Conbots disappointed about a promise they don't want kept.

Surprised when they are never taken seriously.

The opposition has to oppose. They run into trouble when they don't really oppose something, or just halfheartedly do. Their flinching supporters hear their pretend outrage and mistake it for real outrage and us poor saps on the internet have to put up with the psychotic fall out.

Cancelling the Northern Gateway Pipeline shouldn't count as a promise.

OMG A spelling error, ya grammar Nazi.

That's iPhone posting for ya. ;)

There's a slight difference between the two, there, Boom Boom! :)

great comments on this mess:

Interesting that it is Jr who makes the outlandish promises, but an underling who is left to explain why 25,000 refugees actually is closer to 2000. The longer this saga plays out, the closer the real numbers approach PM Harper's estimate. Also predictable is that the Feb deadline will not be met as Liberals continue to kick the can down the road. And the press? Still fawning over Jr's style, Maybe they could ask him some serious questions.

Anyone know if any of these are refugees that had already been approved by the Conservative government?

Even the CBC admitted that the first two planeloads of refugees were 100% privately sponsored and their applications had been in the process long before the election. By the time the third planeload arrived the media had toned down that part of the story to quietly admitting that the refugees were "mostly" privately sponsored. And lately, the MSM seem to have completely stopped acknowledging private sponsors. So far, in fact, I haven't actually seen or heard in the MSM of EVEN ONE refugee as being sponsored by the liberal government as part of the 25,000, er, 10,000, er, 50,000 or whatever number is stuck in the painfully numerically-challenged brains of junior and his pathetic pretenders at any given minute.

Which makes it even worse! :)
