The FBI is a domestic law enforcement and intelligence agency focused on federal crimes within the US, while the CIA is a foreign intelligence agency that operates outside the US with no domestic law enforcement authority.

The FBI investigates threats within US borders, whereas the CIA gathers intelligence abroad to inform national policy. On that note, a technical team from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived in Cuba this week to launch an "independent investigation," the U.S. Embassy in Havana said on Wednesday, following an incursion by 10 Cuban exiles accused of ‌provoking a deadly shootout at sea with the island`s border patrol? What does this say with respect to the Donroe Doctrine?

On February 25, 10 Cuban nationals tried to enter Cuba by speedboat at night, armed with nearly 13,000 rounds of ammunition, 13 rifles and 11 pistols, Havana has said.

Five were killed in the shootout that ensued. The others, who were wounded, are in Cuban custody and receiving medical attention, Cuba said.

The U.S. Embassy said in a statement the FBI trip to Cuba was part of a "thorough and independent investigation" into the incident, in Cuba, by the FBI and not the CIA.

An embassy official told Reuters the U.S. would verify Havana's version of events.

"Consistent with U.S. policy, we do not make decisions in the United States on the basis of what Cuban authorities are saying," the official said. "We will independently verify the facts and make decisions based solely on U.S. interest, U.S. law, and the protection U.S. citizens” because America Fuck Yeah!
(YouTube & AMERICA F#K YEAH!)

Tensions have soared between the two (?) nations since January, when U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a virtual ‌oil blockade on the island after capturing and ousting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a crucial Cuban benefactor, on January 3.

Cuba said the assailants were Cuban exiles, some of whom had been previously identified as accused terrorists, who came from the United States with the intent to sow chaos and attack military units.

A Cuban patrol of five border guard members on a nine-meter boat spotted the incoming vessel early that morning about one nautical mile off a remote channel on the Caribbean island's northern coast, some 100 miles (160 km) from Marathon, Florida.

The infiltrators fired on the patrol from 185 meters away, striking the captain in the abdomen, Cuba said. Bleeding heavily, the wounded captain remained at the helm and steered toward the enemy vessel, leading to a firefight at a distance of about 20 meters.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the speedboat incursion was not a U.S. operation and that no U.S. government personnel were involved. “Nothing to see here, move along!

With the war on Iran, US action in Venezuela, and increasingly bellicose talk about Cuba, the Trump administration is reviving the old trope of the Ugly American, but this time without the once obligatory paeans to democracy. That old image of America as a narcissistic and culturally insensitive bully is back with a vengeance.

“A Reckless Imperial Error,” read a headline about the Iran war in Le Monde. From Die Zeit: “How Trump is turning the U.S. into a source of chaos.” Le Monde: “Trump’s outbursts no longer reassure financial markets.”

But the Ugly American archetype was also an image of someone naive and even, occasionally, well-meaning. Those clumsy crew-cutted Americans just didn’t understand the world, the thinking went. But Trump has turned the Ugly American into the Immoral American, a prototype of a predatory sociopath who is entirely transactional and probably does know better.

The Immoral American is more unscrupulous and corrupt than the Ugly American and, unlike the latter, cannot be evolved but only replaced. Projecting Trump’s venal persona on the American character will do years of damage to America’s image.

In Germany, the UK, Spain and France, support for the war is in the 20s. One in five Europeans sees the US – not Iran – as the principal threat to world peace. Put yourself in the position of an ally. When the US president has the prime minister of Japan in the Oval Office and, after an incredibly gauche reference to Pearl Harbor, asks her for help in the strait of Hormuz, what will she do? Support for the Iran war in Japan is 10%. Trump never seems to remember that foreign leaders have their own domestic constituencies.

I don't know why the U.S. is even worried about the strait. Let those who will suffer if it's closed do the work of opening it. Screw them if they don't want to make the effort to keep it open.

The global economy will suffer if it remains closed. It wasn’t closed February 27th. This also affects the US regardless of Trumps claims.

It affects Europe far more than the U.S.
Has your gas/diesel/natural gas increased in cost since February 28th? It has in the US too….but it affects those closer to that strait first ‘cuz oil (tankers) travels about jogging speed, so Africa and Asia and Europe were affected first…but we’re all affected.

Part of Trump’s logic to say that the closure of the strait doesn’t affect the US is that they get most of their foreign oil from Canada…& yet it’s affecting our cost at the pumps but not affecting America? That seems a little hard to swallow.

Did I say there was no affect ? We are not going to run out of fuel at the pump , not necessarily the case in Europe .
