The definition of Liberalism

Interesting how die hards of any stripe do more damage to their cause than win converts. Jack is to conservatives, what SJP and Soc are to liberals, what eanassir is to Muslims and herald is to Christianity - a bunch of silly buggers turning people off. When an issue is emotionally charged, logic and reason take a flying hike.

And what gave you the idea that I am out to win converts? I couldn't care less what others think, I am here to express my views and no more.

It is not my job to evangelize.

I only mentioned the pension cuts because you have said in the past that the Liberals have balanced their books on the backs of pensioners. It is none of my business I agree.

On the back of the pensioners? Is that bad? I would hope that pensions were cut back, same as everything else. Liberals cut everything right and left, that is the only way to balance the budget. Why should pensioners be spared?

Indeed, that is why conservatives will never balance the budget. They want a painless way of balancing the budget. And the only painless way to (temporarily) balance the budget is to borrow and borrow heavily. That is one of the reason why conservatism and huge deficit, astronomical debt go together like Stilton and Port (or wine and cheese).

I for one would resent it if everything else is cut to balance the budget and pensioners are spared.

The comment was not directed at you Socrates, nor at any particular poster. It is just that I saw the comment in your post about Liberals balancing the budget on the back of pensioners and thought I had to respond to that. Pensioners had to make sacrifices to balance the budget, same as everybody else.

So you agree with the Conservative move to tax income trusts?

Would that be all pensioners -Would that also include all fed and Prov high end pensions - what about low income at or just above the poverty level?

But I am not running for office, why would you base you decision on people like my self when in fact I have nothing to do with policy making?

I do apologize on the pension bit,
I only mentioned the pension cuts because you have said in the past that the Liberals have balanced their books on the backs of pensioners. It is none of my business I agree. But you seem to be angry because I point out anecdotes that have a relative connection to our standard of living, which quite frankly as I said before I trust my standard of living better in the hands of Liberalism then Conservativisem.

Where have I said Liberals have balanced their budget on the backs of pensioners? You really like making crap up don't you? Give the link. Sorry to inform you that's just another terminological inexactitude ... but thanks for giving your idiot friend something to bite on.

LW stop it I will dig it up, during a discussion in the past, I believe it was on a thread I put up long ego called the Canadian election, and rebottled something I had said praising the Liberals on surpluses, and your comment was "ye they balanced the budget on pensioners backs and showed a surplus". It will take me a little time, but I will bring it up. Lets cut the crap out shooting at each other. I am sick of it.8O:x

SJPHistory lesson on Liberls Cuts - Defence was hit the hardest - while we had troops deploying to battle zones - FRY - - you know - where people shoot at you - Indian Affairs was not cut but increased.

I am on record if I have miss quoted others APOLOGY is needed, I will, if I am wrong.

Calling the guy an idiot is puzzling to say the list, he has a great understanding of the Canadian political system, and agree or disagree that is part and partial of democracy. Why all the venom, I am a bad salesman, hi is an idiot, why through rocks? I have never attacked you, yet you seem to be the grammatical cop, when I have made an error in spelling or word assembly, this is not a contest on who is going to thought biggest bolder at the other. Remember this one it come from made by me, WE are all friends here. Let Liberalism work.

When Liberals instituted austerity measures, I think most people were affected to some degree. Now I couldn't tell you in what way pensions were affected, it has been a long time.

Personally, I don't think any pensions were affected. Pensions (like CPP) are not welfare programs, they are strictly based upon the contributions you make. You contribute nothing, you get nothing.

Social assistance programs, such as Old Age Security may have been affected.

Grammatical cop? No ... I took issue with your interpretation of the word liberal to automatically mean party politics. If you can find something else where the comment hasn't been in jest, you can try to prove that too.

Insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting different results. To use your friend's tactic of word-twisting semantics, by definition, insanity is idiocy.

Look, people are always going to claim that their favorite programs were cut hardest; the ones they don’t care about were hardly touched. That is natural.

The fact is most people were affected. And Indian Affairs was not cut? Well, I didn’t know that, but that doesn’t surprise me. Indians are the poorest, most disadvantaged part of the society. If a way can be found not to cut their programs, it is all to the good. But again, I wouldn’t have blamed Liberals if they had cut Indian Affairs. When spending is being cut, nothing must be sacrosanct, there must not be any sacred cows.

SJP

Again I think you should go thru our old posts on another Forum -
I stated repeatedly to you those factsBalancing a budget on the back of the poor is and receives my utmost disgust in combination with sending Soldiers off to war - and it was a War - to die poorly equipped - That is in my opinion condoning murder -

Now any govt the uses the poor to settle a deficit receives my utter disgust - You are well off and well planned financially -

I work with and meets daily people that live pay check to pay check -

I have also thru charitable work met a substantial number of seniors that under Chretien and Martins cuts had little to nothing to eat come the end of the month.

To agree that this should happen is and show clear greed on your part -
