Martin in the fight defending his right
to walk down the street.

The crux of it.

People like Zimmerman, neighbourhood vigilante groups, underscore the paranoia running rampant in the US about people taking their 'stuff'. Human life and the rights of your fellow man do not matter nearly as much as 'stuff', and this is yet another sad case highlighting the issue.

If someone looks wrong, you can attack, harass, and stalk them. That's what being conditioned to fear 'them' reaps in a society. The wrong colour, the wrong political stance, the wrong religion.... fear fear fear.

The other side of that coin is that there are people willing to risk their life for this 'stuff'.

It's a 2-way street

Zimmerman was the wrong colour until the MSM realized that he was Hispanic. Even after realizing the faux pas, they twisted the logic to coin a new term in 'White-Hispanic'

A twisted, f'ed up street that leaves society poorer for not trying to straighten it out. Excusing, and downright encouraging, people to kill eachother over their material goods, in such a rich nation, is sad.

I agree. But the issue relates to their being motivation on the parts of all parties in the equation... Like it or not, it's been this way since the dawn of time.

There seems to be undue fearful trigger twitchiness in the self-proclaimed "home of the brave". Race to the bottom?

A racially fearful trigger twitchiness in the self-proclaimed "home of the brave". And, still not anywhere close to being "land of the free"!

, a 76-year-old Milwaukee man is set to stand trial this week in the 2012 shooting death a 13-year-old boy he had accused of stealing from him.
Well there you are , we do not give children the death penalty for theft. The old man is going up the river, or at least should be even if he is an old geezer he knew better.

I will admit I may have taken you wrong here, but 'motivation on the parts of all parties in the equation' is absent when it's kids being shot to death for looking in someone else's mind like they might have committed a crime, or might commit a crime eventually. I fail to see how they have a motivated interest in the issue aside from being collateral damage.

Christianna correctly characterizes the thirteen-year-old victim as a child; does calling the boy a "black teen" make the crime less horrific? I cannot imagine losing a child to such utter lunacy.

Well, it is an apt description, and the media at least is painting the full picture.

The only time it bothers me, is if they are making statements that don't fit when you change the gender or race.

So, so long as they'd treat it the same if it was a white 13 year old girl, I could care less if they explain that it was a black thirteen year old boy.

Trayvon was away - had successfully escaped Zimmerman at one point. Trayvon made a decision to nullify that safety in order to return and confront the guy.

The comments about 'looking into someone else's mind' can easily apply both ways.

My posts aren't an attempt to justify Martin's death, but in the end, he also made poor decisions that resulted in the tragedy that we see today and these decisions must be recognized rather than excused.

You know this kid wasn't Trayvon Martin, right?

And yeah, Trayvon Martin made the choice not to lead a stalker to his house. If a 17 year old girl took a self defense class, she'd have been taught the same tactic.

It isn't so rich anymore Karrie and that is a big part of the problem. Look up the stats on who holds the most wealth in the US and it sure isn't the man on the street.
