Back on topic....

I think few people would argue that bombing civilian populations isn't horrible, barbaric, evil... But, was it necessary? I'm not a huge history buff or anything, but where would I find a book detailing Japan's desire to surrender before they were bombed at Nagasaki (please something other than an internet website)? If they weren't willing to surrender before then, what would the casualties have been like had they not been bombed into it? Unfortunately the reality of war in the 20th century is that civilians suffered more than soldiers. Our armies don't line up nicely like chess pieces to fight anymore because any army that did that would guarantee their own defeat.

As far as the Christians bombing Christians angle... I really don't get that. I don't see why it should be worse for them to bomb Christians than to bomb Buddhists or Jews or Muslims. Their Bible teaches we are all children of God doesn't it? Christians are as capable of violence as the members of any other religious group.

So? It wasn't my subject dummy.

Nice try at twisting the facts.

I actually side with you on that one idiot.

Oh brother... <shaking my head>

You quoted me... remember hitting that "quote" button? Then you made a comment underneath. Typically in this forum when you quote someone you are trying comment on what they said.

You're hopeless.

During that time of WW2, the Japanese were notorious for their vicious tactics, and their horrible
treatment of POW's, and they went to any length to torture and kill them.

They only wanted a peace agreement which made them look 'good', and the emperor actually was only
concerned with his 'holding' onto power, even after the bombs were dropped he hesitated to move
toward a surrender, worrying about his 'own' position, with no thought of his people.

If the war had continued as it had been, the move from the south to the north of the island of Japan
would have killed hundreds of thousand of americans and japanese. The decision was not easy, but
hindsight seems to be that, the logical decision, was to end it quickly, and they had that device to do
exactly that, and it worked.

The emperior, in the end, did keep his job, and a new japan was born, and they seem to be doing
just fine.

The japanese can blame themselves for starting such a stupid war, and can also take the blame for
how it ended.
It has nothing to do with Christianity, they seem to stick their noses in many places that it doesn't
belong. Just go to church and do your weekly duty, and stay out of politics, the politicians have
enough trouble, without religious interference.
As soon as G. Bush gets out of the white house, maybe we can also get rid of all of those religious
christian fundamentalists, who are trying to make decisions for the president and his cronies, and
it is working, as I remember hearing how Bush was told to do certain things, as president, by
God. Sad sad sad.

Seems to me, the facts you're not typing in German or Japanese, you can voice your opinion, and you're free to worship as you please, means bombs and bullets went just where they had to to achieve their desired effect.

You know Japan was fascist too right? It also commited its own slew of war crimes. Point being, Japan was going to use its own nuclear weapon, probably by suicide sub (they had one closing on Panama by wars end, from the eastern side) or failing that a mixture of 731 and Fu-go (the only mainland US bombings of WWII) for some nice bioweaponry displacement.

Japan had no intention of surrender, it thought it could win if it got the bomb first.

Without the A bomb, each western generation would still be caught in the cycle of world war. It's the only thing that's allowed a championing of civilized behaviour. Japan in 1945 allowed the world to see how destructive the weapon actually is. It's been the biggest lesson the global community has ever learned. We should be thankful.
