The Evil Empire
Well I had the pleasure of meeting Jay yesterday, Saturday, June 11th. 2005. He hitched a ride with a friend of his from Ontario that had to attend a wedding in Connecticut. He found the nerve to get on the “Beast” also known as Metro-North which brought him into Grand Central Terminal at 10am in New York City from New Haven Connecticut. We have been joking around online for the past few weeks about how much older I am than he is, so of course I expected to see a kid around 19 to 22 years old. HA! Our generation gap is no more than 6 years it seems. Try pulling that off again Canuck and you will find your ponytail a tad shorter next time.

I had such a great day with him, we talked about everything, world events, Canadian/US relations, religion, Canadians, Americans, stereotypes, are similarities and differences as a people, The “American police state”, our alert levels and interesting enough, he pointed out a few things that I have never noticed myself in New York. All this in the backdrop of visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ground Zero, Battery Park with a quick view of the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Harlem, a quick view of Central Park, The New York Public Library and a quick visit so he can see the Atlantic Ocean. We had a quick breakfast at Starbucks, lunch at a sports bar with plenty of beer (well for my levels anyway), he didn’t appear to have a problem with consuming larger amounts than I did like a good little Canadian “boy”.

Interesting enough both our better halves thought we were nuts meeting someone we’ve only chatted with online for a few weeks. I guess we put them all to shame, didn’t we mate? As a person he is very courteous, open minded, willing to learn and more importantly perhaps understand. A great sense of humor. A great conversationalist on a wide range of topics. He doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind and is equally eager to listen to another point of view. From 10am to 9pm when he hopped on the beast again for his return trip to Connecticut, time just flew by.

Well Jay, hope your back home safe and sound and say hello to the Mrs, for me even though I have never met her, I can only assume what your better half is like by meeting you yesterday. You’re a credit to your people and humanity and the pleasure of meeting you has been all mine.

I felt compelled to write this on Canadian Content, because I think despite our differences in opinions, we are all human and it takes sometimes very little effort to see and meet new people. We are all a little online community and I would like to thank the administrator of this board for giving me the opportunity to meet a new an exciting person, if it weren’t for Canadian Content, I would not have had a new friend in the Great White North.

Thank you.

RE: Thank you to Canadian

ITN, that's really cool (and brave) to meet.

Think Jay'll post his experience too?

I'm not quite sure, I may have mistakenly put him on the wrong train :p and send him to boot camp instead :p

I'd like to hope he had a good time and left with a positive experience.

Man, Jay can drink. I was telling him you want to take a walk or have another beer? He said, beer 8O :p

He must also love the heat, I was sweating bricks in an air conditioned museum and he was fine. :p
