Shares of Tesla Inc. TSLA, +10.78% on Friday surged 11% to close at a record $1,544.65 as some investors bet demand for the Silicon Valley electric-car maker’s vehicles remains strong despite diminished prospects for car sales overall amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The shares traded as high as $1,548.92.

Tesla is scheduled to report second-quarter results in two weeks on July 22, with some believing the company could report a fourth consecutive GAAP profit and thus be eligible to enter the S&P 500 index SPX, +1.04%, which would bring it to thousands of index-tracking funds as well as earn it even more attention from actively managed funds. Analysts surveyed by FactSet, however, see Tesla posting a GAAP quarterly loss of $1.34 a share on sales of $4.8 billion.

Shares of Tesla fell into negative territory during afternoon trading on Monday, giving back a more than 14% jump from earlier in the session that had pushed the stock to a new all-time high.

The stock has been on a record run as investors continue to favor the Elon Musk-led company, and as Tesla's valuation climbs ever higher, speculation is growing that it will soon join the S&P 500

No one fully understands the market , and funny things happen there . One of those is the continued support for a fiscal loser like Tesla .

Elon Musk has stated on Twitter that Tesla isn’t going to be selling the Standard Range Model Y after all. When Tesla first announced the Model Y, Musk said that there would be a ‘Standard Range’ trim option that would release after the Long Range options for a discounted price. Now, it’s no longer an option, according to a recent tweet from the eccentric CEO. Musk says that the distance the Standard Range Model could travel wasn’t enough to meet the company’s standards, so Tesla decided to scrap it. For reference, the range was supposed to be somewhere around 370km

Musk tweeting that the giga press has been installed in Freemont.

It will cast model Y rear bodies in a single piece, including crash rails. The resulting auto body is far superior to the existing Model Y's.

The press is rumored to reduce Tesla's labor costs by 20%, and allow them to increase their maximum production number from 500K to 1 million a year.

Amazing technology that is rewriting the book on how its done.
