Maybe so but this has gone so far beyond Toronto what possible difference could it make to have a big fuss over it now? I'm pretty sure it's now ensconced into corporate policy for all major retailers.

Personally I prefer the reusable bags, the ones they charge you a nickle for are crap and fall apart.
I'm all for going back to the days of returnable glass bottled milk and beverages.

The city lost a good opportunity, I don't think the notion can be revisited now, to turn the fee into a tax and direct that stream into green projects.

I still remember the winter where they were the only city that couldn't figure out how to handle all the snow and the military got called.
I'm glad I can say I'm not a Torontonian. That was such a lame event.

That's still good for a first snowfall joke around here, lol.

Me too. I hate all this plastic, water bottles drive me insane particularly. Such a stupid thing, bottled water.

Exactly. Everyone always bitches and moans about tax, but here was a perfect example of something that was not cost prohibitive, that actually did change a lot of peoples behaviour and still could have provided for a decent revenue stream.

It's part and parcel of the serious flaws and lack of clear thinking, in the ideology of taxing to a greener future.

There have got to be stats on which city or province is a champion of bag recycling and whether or not a fee is applied to plastic bags.

I don't have a problem with 5 cents for a plastic bag. It's not that
bad of a deal. I mean, 20 "kitchen catcher" bags is about $2.00
but 20 plastic shopping bags is....$2.00

I bought a bunch of those re-usable shopping bags a while back,
and actually used them, & quickly ran out'a plastic bags. Then I
bought those small "kitchen catcher" plastic bags, and put them
in my re-usable shopping bag to take home....& thought, "What
the Hell am I doing?"

I still use those re-usable cloth shopping bags, but not for
shopping. They hold a lot. I usually pack one with a beach
towel and trunks and a 26oz of booze for a HotTub night
out for the UFC Fights, or something along those lines...

I recycle those 5 cent shopping bags now through my garbage
can, or through my backyard (while gathering dog turds daily)
into the bin in the alley. Between the kitchen & backyard, I use
a minimum of three of them daily. They assist me in cycling
my garbage and dog **** right into the land fill.

Five cents a bag? I'm in! "How many bags would you like Sir?"
I say, "I'll take 40! Here's the extra two bucks!" I'll put my groceries
in two or three bags, and the other 36 bags into the 37th one. I don't
know what the City of Toronto's issue is. I'd feel weird asking for 40
bags if I didn't get to pay for them, & I'd just be buy'n them off the
shelf instead of conveniently at the till.

I like the handles too. "Kitchen Catcher's" don't have handles. I
recycle my bags (all of them, so no waste) right into the dump.
Does this count?

I just got the new wheel to curb bin today. I'm really going to miss the dumpster.

It was cozy!

Yup. I'm going to fill my neighbour's wheel out bin with water to see if the truck can lift it.

That's Funny!

That will really suck when someone lights that on fire. I can't remember
the last time I witnessed a dumpster that didn't have its lid ripped off or
melted off.

Actually, if that thing (your new rolling can) is lite up like every other
City of Regina dumpster...but you've parked it over a pothole, & the
plastic fills it in.....is that recycling?

I don't know if it melts but if it does, pothole filler would be great idea. My alley is super rough, there are probably better alleys in Kandahar.

We maybe onto something here, and I've heard that recycling
is good for the eviroment. The Hood Rats can be doing road
repairs.....& it wouldn't be violating their human rights.

I can see the city (Union for the outside workers) having an
issue with this, as the potholes wouldn't be filled by Union
Employees.

Is sitting in a truck/contraption thing that fills potholes by auger still considered "outdoor" work?

I don't know? I gues it would depend on the shear numbers watching
that're on the City payrole. Three guys in high-visability vests watching,
and two supervisors (each in their own City Truck) watching those that
are watching. If the three guys watching are outside, and the two
supervisors have their windows down....that would make it just over 83%
outdoor work, wouldn't it?

It's not even that complex anymore. It's two guys one triuck/contraption. The non-union summer student labourer gets out to push the patch into the hole if they miss.
