Rarely are the downtown streets closed to construction except for the freeways etc. My problem isn't with the protests but with the manner in which they are doing so. I live approx 200 metres from where they have been protesting on University Ave, I have had to put up with their racket for last 2 week effecting my sleep in the process as they are there 24/7 when they decide to show up.

Again, it's the manner in which they are protesting.

Now THAT, I can empathize with ... totally!

Now in defense of the LTTE,

They really shouldn't have been classified as a terrorist organization, as their activities were confined to one region, which was their homeland, which they ended up running as a defacto state for some time.

That being said the LTTE will soon be gone and the Sri Lankan army can end this. Of course its version of ending this is still the expulsion of slaughter of Tamils (and increasingly looking to set its next targets on Muslims)

If nothing else the LTTE have made one lasting impact on the world, having the most badass military uniforms in the latter half the 20th century.

LTTE was responsible for killing Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India. Murdering politicians from other countries would probably be considered terrorism by most.

I'm not too familiar with that but according to wikipedia:
Maldives - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In November 1988, a group of Maldivians headed by Muhammadu Ibrahim Lutfee, a small time businessman, used Tamil mercenaries from Sri Lanka to stage a coup against President Gayoom. After an appeal by the Maldivian government for help, the Indian military intervened against the mercenaries in order to reinstate Gayoom in power. On the night of 3 November 1988, the Indian Air Force airlifted a parachute battalion group from Agra and flew them non-stop over 2,000 kilometres (1,240 mi) to the Maldives. The Indian paratroopers landed at Hulule and secured the airfield and restored the Government rule at Malé within hours. The brief, bloodless operation, labelled Operation Cactus, also involved the Indian Navy."

I guess they took it personal or something.

There is cultural and institutional interdependence between members of any community. When The Tygers of Pan Tang sang 'It's lonely at the top. Everybody's trying to do you in' [1] , they shed new light on fishing, allowing man to take it by the hand and understand its momentum. More a melody to society's dysfunctions than a parody of the self, fishing demonstrates a coherent approach, something so lacking in our culture, that it is not recognised by all. When one is faced with people of today a central theme emerges - fishing is either adored or despised, it leaves no one undecided. It grows stonger every day.

It is not common practice to associate economics with tamil tigers. Generally, tamil tigers would be thought to have no effect on our economic situation, but there are in fact some effects. The sales industry associated with tamil tigers is actually a 2.3 billion dollar a year industry and growing each year. The industry employs nearly 150,000 people in the United States alone. It would be safe to say that tamil tigers play an important role in American economics and shouldn't be taken for granted.

I've never, ever understood the mindset of people who protest and disrupt people's daily lives, at least on this continent. All it does is piss people off and alienate them from your cause.

A $2 Billion dollar industry in the US works out to about $6 a person per year. don't think the US economy would notice - especially if most of that money goes off shore!
