Canadians see climate change as the top threat to our country, but many are also listing U.S. power and influence among the leading national security risks, according to a new global survey.

A report published Tuesday by the Washington, D.C.-based Pew Research Center found that 60 per cent of surveyed Canadians believe global climate change is a major threat to Canada.

Other top threats, as seen by Canadians:

ISIS (55 per cent)
Cyberattacks from other countries (47 per cent)
U.S. power and influence (38 per cent)
Condition of the global economy (33 per cent)

Jacob Poushter, a senior researcher at Pew and co-author of the report, said the change in Canadians’ view of the U.S. is notable. Only 23 per cent of Canadians saw U.S. power and influence as a threat in 2013, he said.

“More people in Canada actually say that the U.S. is a threat versus Russia and China,” Poushter told CTV News Channel on Tuesday.

Thirty per cent of Canadians believe Russia’s power and influence is a major threat to Canada, and 25 per cent said the same about China.

The view that America could be dangerous to other countries was noted across the 38 nations polled in the Pew survey.

“One of the biggest changes we’ve seen is that more people now name U.S. power and influence as a major threat,” Poushter said.

62% of Canadians are to stupid to realize how doomed we are living right next to Uncle Scam who will destroy Canada when they can't reach anyone else. As soon as they need the water.

Nonsense. We won't destroy Canada. I'm sure all the sensible Canadians will surrender peacefully.

Unless we can grow our population to match the US' real fast. I have a nagging feeling that we won't accomplish that in the short term though.

Well, someone has got to do something drastic about that f**king Kim Il.

No worries. They'll just vote him out come next election. Unless they're really cumb enough for vote him in a second time.

If so, I say we dig ourselves out of North America and paddle Canada to the equator.

Damned clever. Instead of letting Turks and Caicos become a province of Canada, Canada can become a province of Turks and Caicos!

Yeah, but we might need to paddle slowly. We need to give Canada's vegetation time to adapt as we move South. But then again, given the sheer weight of our landmass and our small rowing population, I don't think excessive speed will be a problem.

Besides, we'd need to row either east for west first to get the US out of the way and then row south. Given the size of our land mass, I'd go West first, then we just join Hawaii and hold a referendum to unite to form the Federation of Equatorial Pacifica (FEP).

It would save on our electricity bills too.

Then maybe Canada could join Mercosur and learn espagnol. This would solve our squabblings with Quebec now that we'd all agree on a common second language.

On second thought, we'd still be pretty close to the US. Heck, we'll just keep NAFTA.

Logic dictates that before any real warfare with Russia Canadian space must be secured for America to have any chance in the engagement. Remember Fortress North America? We have already surrendered years ago already. When you go to war we go to war and every requirement, acess, land ,resources are already signed over in that agreement.
We are your best friends because we can't get off this continent, and that is the only reason.

You are probably right. But a more likely scenario is Canada adding 20 more Democratic votes to the Senate and another 64 members to the House of Representatives, most of whom would be Democrats.
