Texas police officer fired for allegedly feeding a fecal sandwich to homeless person: Report

A Texas police officer has been fired for allegedly trying to feed a sandwich filled with fecal matter to a homeless man, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Officer Matthew Luckhurst was a five-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department when the incident allegedly took place in May. Sources say that Luckhurts bragged to a fellow officer “he had picked up some feces, placed it in a slice of bread, and put it in a Styrofoam container next to the unknown homeless male.”
His lawyer however dismissed the claims as a joke gone wrong.
“It didn’t happen,” Ben Sifuentes, his lawyer said to the paper, citing no eyewitnesses, video recordings and that the homeless person never came forward to give a statement.
Department officials said that they haven’t been able to find the homeless man to question him about the incident.
Despite this, the chief of police and the mayor of the San Antonio have both been vocal about the seriousness of the allegations.
“This was a vile and disgusting act that violates our guiding principles of ‘treating all with integrity, compassion, fairness and respect,’" chief William McManus said in a statement. “The fact that his fellow officers were so disgusted with his actions that they reported him to Internal Affairs demonstrates that this type of behaviour will never be tolerated. The action of this one former officer in no way reflects the actions of all the other good men and women who respectfully serve this community.”
San Antonio’s mayor Ivy Taylor told the San Antonio Express-News that he thought firing the officer was the right thing to do.
“His actions were a betrayal of every value we have in our community, and he is not representative of our great police force,” he said.
Mysa.com says McManus alongside a citizen and police board have all agreed to an “indefinite suspension for the officer” who has been on downtown bike-patrol for the past year. Luckhurst plans to appeal.

Barrie cop has charges dropped in theft of stepdaughter’s inheritance

BARRIE - A Barrie cop currently on disability leave and living in Costa Rica had theft charges against him dropped Thursday.
Const. Brian Byblow, 47, was charged with breach of trust and the theft of his stepdaughter’s inheritance of almost $200,000.
The money disappeared sometime after the teen’s mother and Byblow’s wife, Jean Byblow, 34, was found hanging from a tree in their Coldwater backyard on July 2, 2012.
The daughter, who was 12 at the time, was at a sleepover when Byblow called police to report his wife was dead. It was ruled a suicide.
The case was set to be heard in February, however the 25-year police veteran appeared briefly Thursday in bail court, where the charges were dropped. Byblow, sporting a ponytail and an earring, left court a free man.
The daughter now lives in Brockville with her biological father, Todd Ouellette, who says he had to “jump through hoops” and spend thousands to hire a lawyer and track down his daughter’s rightful inheritance.
In the deal to withdraw the charges, the Coldwater home where Byblow used to live was seized and $115,000 was recovered, which will be held in trust for the daughter by a court-appointed trustee.
“The Crown told us if he was found guilty of anything we would lose the ability to collect anything,” Ouellette said. “Now he can enjoy his dream life in Costa Rica.”
Ouellette said further money owing could come from payments out of Byblow’s pension.
Byblow has been on medical disability for stress, and has collected approximately $60,000 a year for the past 10 years.
In 2005, charges that Byblow was driving drunk and assaulted a civilian while drunk were withdrawn in exchange for a $500 donation to charity. He was later found guilty of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act.
Byblow was again charged with drunk driving while off duty in 2011, but that criminal charge was also dropped. He still faces police act charges in relation to that incident.

Indian police suspend 2 officers for fake Everest claim

NEW DELHI — Two police officers — a husband and wife — have been suspended in India for falsely claiming they scaled Mount Everest in Nepal in May, police said Thursday.
Nepal’s government earlier cancelled the climbing certificates issued to Dinesh Rathod and Tarkeshwari Rathod after it found they had presented a fake photograph of themselves on Everest’s summit.
Fellow climbers said the couple never reached the summit and altered someone else’s photographs to earn their climbing certificates.
A police inquiry in Pune in India’s Maharashtra state also found that their claim was false, the Press Trust of India news agency quoted Deputy Police Commissioner Arvind Chavriya as saying. He said they will remain suspended until the inquiry determines whether they should be fired.
The couple has stayed away from work since the controversy erupted in May.
A total of 456 people scaled Everest during this year’s climbing season, which followed two years of disasters on the mountain.
Last year’s season was scrapped after 19 climbers were killed and 61 injured by an avalanche at the base camp triggered by a massive earthquake. In 2014, an avalanche at the Khumbu Icefall killed 16 Sherpa guides.
In this July 4, 2016 file photo, Indian climber, Satyarup Sidhantha holds on his right hand a photograph that shows him on Mount Everest, along with what he says is an altered version of the same used by an Indian couple to make it appear they were on the summit, as he displays them for the Associated Press in Kolkata, India. Two police officers — a husband and wife — have been suspended in India for falsely claiming they scaled Mount Everest in Nepal in May, police said Thursday. An investigation is underway after a chaotic scene at a Homewood Walmart Thursday night during a theft investigation inside the store.

Multiple cellphone videos captured Homewood police detaining a woman - 59-year-old Brenda Rivers - after a shopper's wallet was stolen at the Lakeshore Parkway store about 8 p.m. The video- which lasts almost 30 minutes - shows officers with a woman handcuffed on the floor in one of the aisles and her husband's staunch defense of what he claimed was an unwarranted search and detention.

The video, posted by Jasmine Thomas and released to AL.com, had been viewed almost 175,000 times less than 24 hours after Thomas went live on Facebook.

"I felt very emotional watching this go on. I had to record it because it's time for something to be done about the mistreatment from police,'' Thomas told AL.com. "This is unacceptable and the officer violated her rights. It's very sad that we have to endure things like this or even witness it. I really hope this open everyone eyes and make them aware of what's really going on now."

Homewood police spokesman Sgt. John Carr said officers were dispatched to the store at 8 p.m. on a report of a wallet theft - which is a felony. When they arrived on the scene, the theft victim, who was shopping with her young daughter, told officers her wallet was taken out of her buggy while she was in the children's department.

Carr said officers went to that department and stopped one female. She consented to a search of her purse and the victim's wallet was not inside. The officer then stopped Rivers, who is shown in the video in handcuffs. He said the officer explained to her that he was investigating a theft and asked her to remain there so the theft victim could come back there and tell police whether or not she was the woman who stole her wallet.

The video indicates Rivers refused to let the officer search her purse. Police said she was detained for trying to leave the scene.
Carr said Rivers refused to comply with the officers and was placed in handcuffs. Initially, there were only two officers on the scene. Supervisors requested to come to the scene were delayed because a Homewood officer was involved in a car crash nearby and they were still at the crash site.

The detention caused quite a stir as a crowd gathered to watch unfolding scene. "I am a human being. Let me go,'' Rivers was seen saying repeatedly on the video. "So are you going to stop every black woman with a black jacket?"

"He just accused her,'' the husband said, claiming they had just entered the store moments before they were stopped. "He wanted to go through her purse without a search warrant or anything. Our rights are being infringed."

Several people in the crowd said the victim of the theft had already said the woman in handcuffs was not the woman who stole her purse. Eventually, store employees brought the victim back to where the woman was being held by officers and said, "It's not her."
One of the officers explained to the crowd watching that Rivers was not being arrested for theft, but for refusing to comply with the officers.

Still, Rivers remained handcuffed for at least 15 more minutes before she was ultimately released without being charged with any crime. "My mama is traumatized and my daddy is very disturbed at what happened,'' said the couple's daughter, Monica Rivers. "She's in a lot of pain. That was excessive force."

Brenda Rivers was still shaken on Friday and said she was in physical pain. She referred any additional questions to her her attorney, who declined to release any statement on Friday.

Off-duty cop allegedly greets pizza delivery woman – naked

William Gonzalez, a 28-year-old off-duty cop in Las Cruces, N.M., is facing indecent exposure charges after allegedly greeting a Domino’s Pizza delivery woman while buck naked, according to the Las Cruces Sun-News.
The five-year veteran cop, who was put on administrative leave, then compounded his problem by begging the investigating officer to ask the delivery woman not to file a police report.
“It is truly sad that an employee knowing right from wrong still does wrong against all reason,” LCPD Chief Jaime Montoya said in a statement. “It is also sad that an employee will put a fellow employee in a tough position of having to inform a supervisor of misconduct.
“All conduct whether on or off duty is a direct reflection of who we are as an organization. If that conduct is against our values or policies our employees will be held accountable.”
Gonzalez tried to play down the incident when he allegedly told the woman he had just got out of the shower before she arrived. But she told the investigating officer his hair was dry and he didn’t have a towel.
She said he even came back naked after going inside the home to get her a tip.

Authorities in South Florida have released body-camera footage amid widespread uproar over a disturbing video that shows police officers handcuffing a double-leg amputee — then letting her drop to the ground.

The moment and its uncomfortable aftermath were recorded on a bystander’s cellphone, and that video has since swept social media, prompting poignant questions and triggering outcry.

The Miami-Dade Police Department released body-camera footage of the arrest Thursday, citing “numerous inquiries” about the incident “along with our commitment to openness and transparency.”

For several minutes, Brown argued with the officers, telling them she had not done anything wrong. Finally, the officers appeared to grab the handles of her wheelchair, roll her to the police car and tell her to get in. When she refused, one of the officers told her that she may face an additional charge for resisting arrest.
