Maybe we should just switch to the personal security contractor model the rest of the world has instead of public police model we have now.

Want security? Pay for it.

Former Kamloops RCMP officer charged with selling cocaine

https://www.kelownanow.com/watercoo...r_Kamloops_RCMP_charged_with_selling_cocaine/
A former Kamloops RCMP officer has been charged with dealing drugs while on the job.
Randi Love, who at one time worked as the Kamloops detachment’s media relations officer, has been charged with drug trafficking on three separate occasions while she was a member of the force.
Sgt. Rob Vermeulen of RCMP’s E-Division said the RCMP became aware of the allegations involving Love on July 16, 2015.
A comprehensive investigation was immediately launched and Love was suspended from duty on August 7, 2015.
According to Vermeulen, a detailed Report to Crown Counsel was submitted to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada with the full investigative findings, meeting their charge approval standards, and charges were approved.
A court date for Love is scheduled for June 16.

I was quite taken aback when I saw that on Global News tonight, just absolutely didn't look the type. Looks can sure be deceiving I guess. If found guilty (which I'm not sure she will be) I hope she serves 10 years hard labour. No doubt there will be "extenuating" circumstances if in fact she is convicted. Sad that someone would f**k up a career like that. From what I hear Timmy Shields isn't any choir boy either at least that is what is alleged.

randi love? Seriously?

Coquitlam Mountie quits force before disciplinary hearing

4 year paid vacation ... and full pension
a slimy piece of dirt ....how many more of these scumbags are the rcmp hiding

So the 4 years suspended with pay is ridiculous. So is dismissing him for his sexual preferences or private life if it does not involve criminal activity (I can't believe I just defended a cop). The idea he could have so long with his pay while also doing other work is grossly unjust and I am glad to hear they have changed things. The question to be asked is if the boss had not accepted his resignation and let the hearing take place would/could they have taken his pension or made him pay back the 4 years of pay. If yes then it was a bad decision to let him quit but that is not on him but on the boss.

RCMP sergeant charged with stealing guns, growing equipment from evidence locker

By: Tim Petruk in Courts, Crime, Justice, Law & Order, News, Police June 13, 2016 0 143 Views
A high-ranking Lillooet police officer is slated to make his first court appearance Tuesday on allegations he stole two guns and grow-op equipment from an RCMP evidence locker.
Sgt. Darrell Robinson is facing eight charges — four each of breach of trust by transferring an exhibit and theft.
He is accused of stealing two firearms and two pieces of marijuana-growing equipment — a generator and growing nutrients — that had been seized as police exhibits.
It is believed some or all of the stolen exhibits had been ordered destroyed.
Police began investigating Robinson in February 2015, after an audit of the Lillooet detachment’s evidence lockup revealed improper processing and handling of exhibits.
Robinson, 51, has been suspended with pay. In addition to the criminal charges, he is also facing an RCMP internal investigation.
He had been the officer in charge of the Lillooet RCMP detachment — the highest ranking Mountie in the community.
Lillooet is located 170 kilometres west of Kamloops.

A veteran Broward sheriff's sergeant has died after shooting himself Wednesday evening, less than eight hours after bonding out of jail where he had spent six nights held on 29 charges related to child pornography and illicit sex.

Sgt. Kreg Costa, 43, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with a "self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Scott Israel confirmed the shooting at 7:15 p.m. "It did happen," he said. He declined to say more. The shooting occurred at Costa's home in the 9100 block of Sunset Strip in Sunrise.

Costa posted $250,000 bond and was released at 10:57 a.m. records show. Conditions of his release forbade him from spending time alone with his five children, ages 3 to 12.

Costa was arrested June 9 after hidden cameras planted in his Weston office showed he spent three to four hours per midnight shift perusing online child porn featuring underage girls, incest, bondage and domination and having cybersex chats with a California teen, authorities announced last week.

He was suspended without pay immediately after his arrest. Personnel records list Costa's salary last year at $146,000, including more than $10,000 in overtime.

When a K-9 died, its handler seemed distraught, then investigators dug up his back yard
Michael E. Miller, The Washington Post
First posted: Wednesday, July 06, 2016 10:00 AM EDT | Updated: Wednesday, July 06, 2016 10:27 AM EDT
Daniel Peabody loved his dogs.

At least, that's the way it looked to students whenever Peabody, a hulking and heavily tattooed school cop, strode into northern Georgia classrooms with a K-9 at his side.

The lieutenant loved his animal partners so much that when one dog retired, Peabody promptly adopted him.

But Peabody wasn't the dog savior he portrayed himself to be, authorities say.

Instead, the veteran K-9 officer now stands accused leaving one police dog in a roasting car to die and executing another.

On Tuesday, investigators announced that the remains of a third dog -- unearthed in Peabody's back yard -- indicated the animal also had been shot, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The alleged case of animal cruelty is all the more bizarre because of the special protections police departments bestow on the expensive and highly trained animals.

In Georgia, for instance, it is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison to intentionally kill a K9 -- a penalty stiffened just last year after a police dog was killed in the line of duty.

Few in Cherokee County could have imagined that the biggest threat to a beloved police dog was the man holding its leash.

The strange story dates back to at least 2012, but only came to light last month.

On June 10, Peabody and his pawed partner, Inca, a four-year-old Belgian Malinois, came home from work at around 4:15 p.m.

Peabody, a 16-year police veteran who had worked with K-9s for five years, rushed inside to deal with another dog, Cherokee County Marshal's Office Maj. Jamie Gianfala told the Marietta Daily Journal.

Nearly three hours later, Peabody suddenly remembered he had left the dog in his squad car. When Peabody went outside to check on Inca, she was dead, Gianfala said.

Gianfala said Peabody's 2001 Ford Crown Victoria was not equipped for police dogs.

"There's no kennel, there's no alarms. It's basically just a Crown Vic police car," he said.

The temperature that afternoon was in the 90s.

"And that was outside," added Chief Marshal Ron Hunton, "so I'm sure the temperature in that police car was much higher."

Hunton told the newspaper that Peabody was visibly distraught over the dog's death, hyperventilating so badly that he had to be taken to a hospital and even passed out at one point.

"He is very, very upset about the death of his dog," he said.

A few days later, Peabody abruptly resigned, according to the Journal-Constitution.

When authorities investigated Inca's death, however, they quickly stumbled upon other suspicious incidents involving the K-9 officer and his partners.

When they asked Peabody about Dale, a yellow lab he adopted in 2012 after five years of working alongside the animal, Peabody initially said the retired dog died in a freak accident.

"Peabody initially claimed Dale's death was accidental due to Dale choking on a toy," the marshal's office said in a statement, according to the Journal-Constitution. "However, the investigation yielded evidence that Dale was in fact shot and killed by Peabody at his Paulding County home."

On June 20, investigators executing a search warrant on Peabody's former home in Paulding County unearthed the remains of a dog they suspected was Dale.

Peabody was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and making a false statement to investigators.

His wife, Tyler Verlander, meanwhile, was cited for operating a dog boarding and training business without a Cherokee County occupation tax certificate, according to the Journal-Constitution. She was also charged with operating a boarding and training business inside a residential district and too close to a residential property. The charges are unrelated to the K-9 deaths.

On Tuesday, investigators announced yet another twist in the curious case.

A forensic veterinarian had determined that the dog remains did not, in fact, belong to Dale.

Instead, they belonged to a Belgian Malinois -- possibly Inca's grandmother.

The discovery brought to three the number of dogs Peabody is suspected of killing, although authorities say the development won't affect charges facing the former school cop.

Dale's body remains unaccounted for.

Toronto cop charged after man commits suicide
By Daniel McKenzie, Toronto Sun
First posted: Thursday, June 23, 2016 07:13 PM EDT
A Toronto Police officer is facing two charges in connection with the suicide of a 19-year-old man in February.
According to the province’s Special Investigations Unit, a man sought the assistance of a police officer in regards to the suicide attempt of another man in High Park on Feb. 2, 2016, at around 2 p.m.
The suicidal man was pronounced dead around 3:30 p.m. that same day, according to the SIU.
“As a result of the SIU investigation, the Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Tony Loparco, has reasonable grounds to believe the police officer committed the criminal offences of criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life,” the SIU stated Thursday.
Const. Kyle Upjohn has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessaries of life.
He is due to appear in court at Old City Hall on Aug. 4.

NYPD Cop Secretly Records His Supervisor Telling Him to Racially Profile Black Men — Then Leaks the Tape

NYPD Cop Secretly Records His Supervisor Telling Him to Racially Profile Black Men — Then Leaks the Tape

A recording of an NYPD officer appearing to pressure a transit officer to specifically target black men has just been released by Gawker.

The recording was provided to the New York Daily News for a story released in January, but the actual audio was not released to the public until now. Although the full recording is 36 minutes long, only a two-minute excerpt has been released.

That recording can be heard here: [at link]

New York transit officer Michael Birch said the recording took place in August 2012 during a performance evaluation.

“The conversation just turned completely weird to me,” Birch said. “Because he’s basically telling me it’s OK to racially profile.”

Birch is speaking with then-captain Constantin Tsachas in the recording, who was recently promoted to deputy inspector. An unidentified lieutenant can also be heard during one exchange.

The most damning text from the interview is transcribed below:

Commanding Officer: Who commits the crimes in the city?

Birch: Who commits the crimes? Well, it’s mostly teenagers, anywhere between the ages of 15 and 19, mostly male blacks and Hispanics.

OK. Who are you stopping?

Everybody. I stop everybody.

Fifty-four TABs up to 8/20. Twenty-five of those are female. Half.

Like I said, I stop everybody. I’m not targeting anybody.

You just told me who the bad guys are.

Yeah, I know that. But there’s also other people who are committing violations as well. I’m not saying that there’s not violations being made.

The male blacks, that you told me commit the crimes—

Plenty of people that I write summonses to are male blacks and male Hispanics.

You stopped two male blacks.

Not for the whole year. You’re telling me for the whole year I only stopped two male blacks on summonses?

8/20. From January 1st to August 20th. Fifty-four TABs: two male blacks, seven Hispanics, seven other, ten white, three Asian. So where are you targeting the perps that you just told me?

Like I said, if I don’t see a perp jumping over the turnstile, what am I supposed to do to him?

These people are not going to pop.

How do I know that? A female Hispanic that I stopped in Sheepshead Bay did pop, actually, for a warrant, and I arrested her. Female Hispanic. The Hispanics that we’re supposed to be going after. That are committing the crimes. The people that I—

Did you think that she was going to pop?

Did I think she was going to pop? I didn’t put no thought into it. If you come up for a collar, I’m taking you in.

Here’s what I see. You just described to me who’s committing the crimes. You’re fully aware of it. But you’re not targeting those people.

I am. I’m targeting everybody.

Two male blacks.

Whoever is out there. If I—

So you only saw two male blacks jump the turnstile?

If you’re saying that’s what’s in front of you, then yes, that’s all I saw, is two male blacks for the whole year jumping the turnstile. If you’re saying that’s what’s in front of you, I’m not disputing that. If that’s what I got there.

That is what you have. That is not disputed here.

I’m saying, we’re also talking Hispanics as well. I stopped a lot of Hispanics, too.

Seven male Hispanics. But more than half are female.

And like I said, everybody’s committing violations in front of me.

Birch also filed a federal lawsuit against the city and NYPD officers last January, saying that he was punished for giving his concerns about what he saw as an illegal quota system. Birch claims that he was denied overtime and given less desirable assignments as a result of his “poor performance.”

“It’s very hard to have a job where the whole public is against you, including your bosses. And when you actually try to do something right, they don’t care,” Birch said. “I can’t wait to get away from this place.”

Birch’s case was dismissed by a judge, but he has since appealed to a higher court. He has also joined other officers with the “NYPD 12” in a class-action suit that accuses the NYPD of implementing an illegal quota system that disproportionately targets minorities.

Man jailed for 29 days when cops mistake soap for cocaine: Docs
Receives US$195,000 in lawsuit
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Friday, July 15, 2016 12:12 PM EDT | Updated: Friday, July 15, 2016 12:26 PM EDT
ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Court documents show the Pennsylvania State Police have paid US$195,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a New York man who spent 29 days behind bars after troopers mistook homemade soap for cocaine.
Alexander Bernstein's attorney Joshua Karoly, tells The Morning Call his client also has settled claims against Safariland LLC, the company that produced the allegedly faulty drug test that troopers used during a November 2013 traffic stop. Details of that settlement weren't available.
State police and Safariland didn't return messages seeking comment Thursday.
Bernstein was a passenger in a Mercedes-Benz police pulled over for speeding near Allentown. Troopers smelled marijuana, searched the car and found packages the driver said was homemade soap, but tested as cocaine. Lab tests later showed it was soap.
