The idea of an electric car has been around for over 100 years. Still has the same problem, short distance and slow recharge. 160 km would be good for most commuters though and can keep up on the rolling parking lots city people insist on calling freeways.

The current Opel Ampera is a plug-in Hybrid. The first 60 miles will be all battery. After that a small internal combustion engine will provide power and recharge the battery.

In the book, Why Mexicans Don't Drink Molson, by Andrea Mandel-Campbell
she states on page 92 that "Nortel, which started out as a manufacturing subsidiary of AT&T, the US telecommunications giant."

You can find the reference at google books, the URL is:

Why Mexicans Don't Drink Molson - Google Book Search

But at wikipedia there is something different, saying it is Cdn.

The idea I am trying to get across is that Stronach is an outsider to the Cdn biz establishment and still had success. The Cdn biz estab. is too pro-American and conservative.

The book discusses how Bronfman-Seagram liquor, McCain foods, Alcan, Bata, Noranda, Falconbridge Nickel Mines, Placer Dome, Sherrit Gordon, INCO, Stelco, and Magna Intl, all were made by non-estab. biz people. From Cdn small towns, the US or Europe.

Go Frank! Go Opel!

Range of 160 kilometers??

When I read that I had a hard time to stop laughing.

As a Winnipeg resident who regularly drives East or West visiting friends and family, a 160 km range toy simply does not cut it.

Much as I respect Frank Stronach, he must come up with something better than that.

The car has an extended range of 500 kilometers. The first 60 kilometers will be on the battery alone so it will burn no gas during that time.

Now electric cars are going to get some big time R & D, which they never really got before. They could get some real improvements in driving distance for example, demand for gas will flatline and cleaner air will be the result.

There will always be a need for gas cars and trucks, but we're wasting too much oil at present simply for transportation.
