Flus A&B were/are rampant thru Dec and Jan. It pays to get the flu shot.
The 80,000 quoted by CNN would have applied during a time when vaccines were readily available.. Perhaps the numbers would have been significantly higher without this access.

Again, there was no global quarantine during that time

Its about treatment capacity and management. It spreads too easily and too fast.
That was speculative and where we are at now in Canukistan, we haven't even come close to challenging that capacity.

Note: one can argue that the quarantine stemmed this possibility, however, Sweden and the Netherlands that encouraged the most basic of preventative measures have not had their healthcare system over inundated... That said, using Sweden and the Netherlands as the baseline we will soon see if the extreme actions are validated or not

So, at what point would you suggest taking Covid-19 seriously? A million deaths? A billion?

You have stated that the current restrictions are wrong for being too excessive. So what's your alternative?

I brought up the influenza deaths of 80k (according to CNN) to act as a yard stick.

Shall we consider this the new norm each and every time a seasonal pandemic (read: the flu) is detected?

We have the capacity to treat "just flu" but not just flu and SARS-CoV-2 combined.

If more had gotten the just flu shot, dealing with SARS-CoV-2 would have been easier.

I know, right? I immediately threw away my 5G phone and installed a Morse lamp on my balcony.

The cat videos suck, but at least I'm safe from the Wuhan Wing Chung Ding-Dong Yellow Peril Death!
Huawei 5G is not available in the States . Nice try .

Yeah, 80,000 wo could have lived had they taken the free shot.

Without the speculation of the impact it would be like NYC everywhere.

So, no answer.

Can't say I'm surprised.
Your Q was responded to already

Yeah, 80,000 wo could have lived had they taken the free shot.

That is speculation that none of the 80k received a flu shot.

CDC also published stats on the effectiveness of the vaccine and it is not a stellar %

Likening covid19 to the flu is a coping mechanism.

It allows people to put covid19 in a compartment with something familiar and non-threatening.

One Stephen Moore idea, told to NYT"s, on how to re-open the economy:

"Why don’t we just put everybody in a space outfit or something like that?"

This guy was almost appointed to the Fed board.
