It's insulting to be faced with the reality in Canada isn't it!? While governments give themselves enormous salary increases and the senate runs up a half-million dollar bill for air-time on their "BlackBerries" the poor and needy of this country are faced with approaching the elements of organized crime (of the non-political variety) for help!

What you'll find is that all these nice people at Canadian Content will empathize or some may criticize but when the gavel hits the puck....they're willing to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

If this weren't the case, there'd be court cases pending on many many "government" slime-balls and the "citizens" of this country would be looking for the scalps of officialdom who've worked mightily to hide the truth about the Mulroney-Shriber affair..about the collusion between CSIS the RCMP and the Americans that results in huge amounts of money being paid to compensate the victims...about the readiness exhibited by this and other governments to bury the truth about Air India and so many cases the Hell's Angel's begin to look good by comparison! It isn't the Hell's Angel's that keep children on reservations of hopelessness, it isn't the Hell's Angel's that are selling this nation out from under the people of Canada in the name of preserving our ties with our Oh SO WONDERFUL "trading partner" to the south. It isn't the Hell's Angel's that have spent billions on fruitless investigations and inquests and "committee's...to return exactly ZERO dollars to the Canadian people!

Canadians talk and talk and talk....

You really can't expect much more.....sorry.

Ms. Bruce

I applaud you for your efforts. You're facing a pretty difficult task in these times. It's not at all unusual for the society's most vulnerable to be on the bottom of society's priority list - I hope you find more suitable arrangements for your operations soon. I imagine rising food prices will create an even bigger obstacle for you to contend with.

There is hope for Canada with people like you.

It is always darkest before the dawn, and remember Who it is Who has the whole world in His hands. I am heartened to read the thoughts of such splendid, clear-thinking Canadians as yourselves. It gives me courage to keep on fighting the good fight. Bless you. Madeline Bruce, Nanaimo, B. C. :canada:

Nanaimo Soup Ktchen

Another 2 months have gone by, and still the 7 - 10 Club cannot find a home, after being evicted from a church where they were paying $700 a month, to use the premises from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday thru Friday only. This club has been operating for almost a quarter of a century in Nanaimo, and it has been a beloved and revered tradition in the eyes of many. There are many regular donars and people who loyally volunteer their time to it. They are presently handing out sandwiches only, from space the City has given them downtown, but this is a far cry from the sanctuary and feeling of community that they provided with their sit-down breakfast in the church. To be there on those mornings was to be a part of true goodness and mercy - the highest values that the human family can achieve. This us and them mentality, the fear of others who are deemed different than ourselves, is what causes both war and the ability to be indifferent to suffering. - Madeline Bruce, Nanaimo, B. C.

Our society is complicated, and not always what it seems

Seven months later, and the 7 - 10 club still has not found a location where needy people, and that included children, can sit down and have a hot meal, get in out of the cold, and have some social contact. It's so easy to demonize one segment of society, when other people, often well-off people, get off scot free. For example, the johns who make the sex trade, and a great deal of the drug trade, possible. Very often these men are married with children, and so-called "Pillars of Society". Do you hear anybody denigrating them? Nope. And look what happened to the economy of the United States. That was caused by the greed of men in suits in posh offices. Do we see any of these bandits going to jail? Nope. It is not so easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys anymore. - Madeline Bruce.
