It was a question not a statement! But I understand your concern, if they are here illegally we shouldn't be hiring them. I have no problem with that.

The following pretty much "answers" your question, or at the very least tells everyone that, as far as you're concerned. the Government should stay out of it and let "workers" be exploited at the pleasure of their employers.

Legal is not always ethical. Isn't up to the people issuing business licenses to determine that things are "above board"? (Not that I'm exactly in favour of business licenses either) Too much "Big brother" -

There are rules concerning what foreign workers can be brought into Canada. We must ensure that exploitative employers are not passing over Canadians for jobs just so they can save a few bucks by hiring foreign workers.

It appears, from this thread, that you have no problem at all with Canadian's and TFW's getting screwed by employers.

Keep Government's noses out of business, right?

There was a prime example of that in Golden a couple of years ago where an unscrupulous employer abused workers hired for tree planting. He found his A$$ in court with a pretty hefty judgment against him, so I think a guy with a room temperature I.Q. would figure out that sh*t doesn't pay.

As we have seen low income workers have, on a number of occasions been treated like crap.
Then there are the agencies that rip them off.
Then we have Canadians replaced by these workers.
The Govt never had 1, not 1 inspection of companies that hired foreign workers.
They along with greedy business screwed the pooch.
Why do we have miners from China in BC. Hope I have that one correct???

He filed for bankruptcy- they workers got screwed.

and yet, you want the government to have even less to do with the hiring of TFW's. Guess you wetre pretty upset that the Government stepped in and screwed up the business owners bottom line. After all, he was just employing those that would make him the most amount of money at the least cost.

So I heard, but for the duration in Canada he's F**Ked! -:)
As far as I'm concerned Gov't is there to enact legislation and enforce it and act as a watchdog for compromised people. They shouldn't be there to start telling law abiding citizens what they can and can't do. They are a bunch of hypocrites anyway, if you spit on the street they'll throw you in jail and the next thing you know they are stealing from you and filing phony expense claims for paying rent while living in their own houses.

You're a riot, Gerry. I never said "at the least cost". Naturally he's supposed to pay them and in a camp situation provide decent meals. Some outfits provide them buckshee and some charge a token amount. I know years ago MacMillan Bloedel was charging the loggers 83 cents a meal, but those days are long gone. There's an old saying "Caviat emptor", which roughly translated means buyer beware. If those guys were on the ball at all on day 2 they'd have been walking down the road with their suitcases packed.

Like I said you're a riot. There is no law that says we have to agree on everything and there's nothing wrong with that but maybe before you denigrate others' opinions, you might want to get in touch with reality and put the pipe away. -:)

Immigrants most often get an unfair shake when they come to Canada or the USA to work. Most are highly educated individuals back in their own country, Doctors, Psychologists, MBA's.

Canada does not recognize foreign degrees or diplomas. Many of these new immigrants end up working in jobs they are extremely overqualified for.

Canada/USA should create a framework for the assessment of a new immigrants credentials, so we can fill desperately needed positions in health care and other fields.

There are doctor and nursing shortages across the country, and with an aging population there are no signs of this getting any better.

So I think the Government should play a more active role in placement and offering educational equivalence testing.

I've heard that too, but my G.P. in town here is recently immigrated from the U.K. and he seems quite competent. Also we seem to have an abundance of doctors from South Africa. Of course I don't know what hoops any of them had to leap through.
