Beavers are very masculine animals. They are doers. They are architects. They also appeal to males more than to females, in the literal and metaphoric sense. I just think it's bad English. Canada should be in the "it" category. If this was in reverse the feminazis would be all over this crap.

Have you ever heard someone refer to their home country as the fatherland? I've heard motherland plenty, but never fatherland. It's customary. Maybe some countries do refer to fatherland, but I have yet to hear a Canadian say that.

As to the topic at hand, the conditions have improved, though that's relative to a cluster phuck, so...I wouldn't go.

That's an interesting point. I still think the feminazis explode if it was in reverse though. Canada is an it, period.

Why is it assumed that Canada is female?

Because it's a beautiful country.

Let them bring home dengue fever. Perhaps that would thin out the population, thus making room for more immigrants.

How about some Sri Lankans? I hear they're waiting on the boats for a chance to sneak in.

athletes villages were constructed for the safety of the athletes, they don't want them scattered
around, in hotels, it's too risky.

Then I don't think the Canadians should participate. The accommodations and venues are in disrepair, and there is not enough time to do it right. Any changes will be glossed-over disasters.

Every time in Canada an Uncle rigs it so his dumb nephew gets hires, his dumb nephew first everyone smarter.

I'm going to build a spaceship to take the good people away, so only idiots are left behind....

I don't get it. I can make all of you more rich than those gangsters say they will leave behind.

Am I the only one to have read the Canadian immigrant book published in the year 1900?

Yes.
What's the most significant point?

What does beauty have to do with anything? Is she irrational and moody too? I suppose it is, based on the weather. Maybe you're on to something, Ariadne, Canada is definitely a woman. jk. It's still an it.

I thought men got over the idea of being beautiful in the 1700s, but perhaps it was later ... that poofy thing from the Baroque period.

All things being equal, Canada has the added advantage of being a beautiful country. That is something that in this century should be exclusively reserved for women.

Therefore, Canada is female.

What's ironic is that by refusing to use a customary norm like her for a country, or even a ship, you're legitimizing the feminist movement that disputes words like manhole covers and policemen.

I think fatherland sounds right too.

Actually, I see it as one of those "all things being equal" things.

No the facilities are not done because of corruption, and if this is corrupt we don't know how well the security issues are being enforced. It is said India is a third world
country, and we should make excuses for them, China did a pretty good job and as
I hear it India wanted to prove they were just as able and they are not.

I wouldn't trust the security in India as far as I could spit.

What is the world trying to prove by approving that an impoverished country host a first class event?
What is India trying to prove by claiming they can do it?

Cancel the event.

Apparently India is no longer an impoverished country- neither is China. It's the U.S. now that has taken over that role (from what I can gather on the news)

The US was impoverished by their Republican Shrub.

India is still promoting an international sports event, venue, and accommodation that is substandard except by third world standards.

Some how I just can't seem to get the fact that world class athletes have to tough it for a few days staying in a 3 star motel on my list of top 50 concerns. What are these guys/gals? A bunch of babies?

The problems go beyond whether the accommodations are 3 star or 5 star. There is standing water in the area ... mosquito and disease breeding ground. A bridge collapsed. The accommodations are not fit for human occupation due to feces in the units, wiring confusion, plumbing confusion, and ... well, have a look for yourself.

Does this look like a 3 star hotel?
