NAFTA has been a utter failure.. for ALL 3 countries. The only people who have benefitted are traders and financiers who have made themselves grotesquely wealthy by playing one nation off against the other.
That is the profit equation of Free Trade which has nothing to do with 'freedom'. It depends on a desperate, captive workforce.. which is ruthlessly exploited.. in the interest of 'shareholder' profits.
DUMP it. It will NEVER work, and it is already in a death spiral. Reestablish a sovereign, national, integrated, industrial economy for Canada.. and use that as a basis of trade for value added product. That will work.

Canada doesn't even have Free Trade between Provinces, yet the architects of NAFTA want us to have Free Trade with other Nations. It's a scam for multi-National Corporations to get rich as the expense of the Middle Class.

Free Trade is about economic LIBERALISM, along with its identical changeling NEO-CONSERVATISM.
Neither have anything to do with real conservatism or nationalism or populism. The NeoCon supporters of global free markets and monetarism are quislings of supranational banks, corporations and agencies and fundamentally support an imperial slaveholding order.
But only the DUMBEST of the NeoCons really believe Free Trade has anything to with real freedom and that opposition to it reflects some allegiance to communism. People in the mold of that idiot Reagan and his ilk (or Mulroney/Chretien/Harper/Trudeau.. all shades of the same die).

Wasn't the leaders of Canada that changed his minds, it was the Governors of the border states worried about losing the 9 million jobs that would be lost if NAFTA was cancelled. Canada did much better without Free Trade and NAFTA, the only winners were multi-national corporations that moved jobs to cheaper labour. Canadian should nationalize our oil and kick out the US Corporations.. sell to China and the EU.
