Seriously? Lol.

I thought he had a bunch of junk on his property. I don't remember anything specifically except the rooster but then it's difficult to forget seeing such a big cock.

LOL
Oh junk is an understatement. I'll take a pic when I head into town.

In his defence, he's not right in the head. He comes from money, one of the heirs to a big sod and forestry family.

Does wood working and is quite good at it.

Very eccentric, nice guy, I'm glad I'm not his neighbour, lol.

This is the first actual job lost due to Mexican immigration.

Treason.
Bwaaahahahahaha!!!

It will put all garden gnomes and lawn flamingos to shame, lol.

We'll call him eccentric, lol.

It's been about 10 years or so since I was around there, and my memory is spotty at best, lol. But I meant junk in the sense that it was weird, but the actual pieces, if I remember correctly, were actually well done, at least a few of them were.

Before it was called Ontario, California the area was part of Aztlan and was represented in part by the eagle centerpiece of the Mexican flag. Whether the old woman likes it or not, those Mejicanos are going to take over the land that was once theirs:

Ditto for all of the Southwest and Texas. Soon the Republicans will be scrambling for their votes.

I wonder if it was the fact that it was a MEXICAN flag, or would she have been upset with any other flag as well?

Would she have been this upset if the people flying the Mexican flag hadn't been Mexican?

I don't know, it's hard to say. Almost a chicken/egg thing.

I do know one thing though:

Tressy Capps

is not someone you want to have as your neighbour.

I was curious because there seems to be a level of racism towards Mexicans thats to be acceptable in the US. It's a form of racism that seems to not be acknowledged as racist...kind of like the racism some Canadians exhibit towards First Nations. its tolerated..even printed in the news...spoken out loud..and never really acknowledged for the racism it is.

A few years ago my hubby and I were on a charter bus headed to San Diego and the bus driver, over the loud speaker, was making some very racist comments about the signage on the side of the road. This is the sign:

It wasn't the only time I'd heard this sort of talk about Mexicans openly.

That's probably a good analogy. My take is that Mexicans in the US are generally seen as taking things away from society, probably in much the same way as FN are seen, again generally, to be taking from Canadian society....neither actually seen as a part of those respective societies.

Where it gets muddled, where I believe you see it being tolerated, is that a lot of times there is some grains truth behind it all. Now I don't mean that in the sense that the racism is justified or anything like that, but when you do look at things like the massive numbers of people crossing that border from Mexico (for example), it's difficult to not acknowledge that that is a strain on resources. Because it is. Anytime you have a huge number of people suddenly moving en mass into an area, it would strain resources of all kinds. So you have some relatively reasonable concerns, and it gets all mixed up with resentment, and then stereotyping, next thing you have a system of tolerated racism.

You see the same sort of thing with FNs here.

Exactly my point. It's in this weird grey zone where, if you acknowledge real problems facing FN (poverty, rampant substance abuse, etc) you're branded a racist. But if you don't, then you're really complicit and doing the most harm or contributing to the problem at least, in my opinion. (Of course those problems aren't exclusive to First Nations, but when you have some entire communities afflicted, it's definitely a FN issue)

All the while too there are still massive amounts of people who don't know the difference between a treaty payment and social assistance.
