It was a tough call. But when I read through it, it didn't strike me as another "pit bull" attack. Dog was tied up in his own yard and dealing with intruders. Any dog would have reacted I think.
Why search a yard with a pit bull in it? If the suspect in the foot chase had gone in there, the cops would have heard barking, yelling, screaming and found a possible blood trail leading them to a wounded suspect.

Yeah I don't know the particulars behind the story of why they went in there in the first place. I just remember reading they had to take their Facebook page down because of it. If the dog tied in the yard had been a German Sheppard, it would have reacted the same way to intruders, which is what the officer was.

Any dog that had attacked a canine would have been shot, the canines are full blown cops too although this could have been avoided with common sense.

My understanding was that the pit bull was chained up in the back yard, so in order for it to attack the K9, that dog would have had to approach it, which means the handler was not paying proper attention. I think K9 officers are exquisitely trained to always follow the command of the handler or they're not released for active duty.
