Sanders doesn't rule out serving as Hillary Clinton's vice president

'What happens the day after, it appears that I am not going to become the nominee, That's subject for further discussion,' he said.

Jansing told him it is indeed 'a subject for further discussion,' to which Sanders said, 'Well the whole process is subject for further discussion.
'Maybe you will become the nominee,' he added, putting his finger in her face.

She told him she didn't think so, and he replied, 'Alright, well we don't know.'

Sunday on Meet the Press, Chuck Todd followed up on his colleague's question and again asked Sanders if he'd consider and offer from Clinton to be her running mate.
'Well, right now, again, here we are in California, I’m knocking my brains out to win the Democratic nomination,' he told Todd. 'That’s where I am right now. What happens afterwards, we will see. But right now, my focus is on winning the nomination.'

The race coming to an end, Sanders has begun outlining the priorities he believes a VP candidate should pursue.

Talking to Todd, Sanders described his ideal candidate for the job as someone who 'will not be from Wall Street, will be somebody who has a history of standing up and fighting for working families, taking on the drug companies whose greed is going to much harm, taking on Wall Street, taking on corporate America, and fight for a government that works for all of us, not just the 1 percent.

Sanders said Friday that Clinton must pick a vice president from his more progressive wing of the Democratic party, telling The Young Turks that picking a conservative or moderate would politically be a 'disaster.'

On Sunday Todd pressed Sanders on one particular politician, Virginia Democrat Tim Kaine.

He asked the democratic socialist if the governor-turned-senator from a purple state was 'too conservative or moderate to be on the Democratic ticket.'
'Again, Chuck, I don't want to shock you, but I think we are once again into a little bit of speculation,' Sanders replied. 'I have known Tim Kaine for years, I like him very much,' the senator added.

'My point was, and let me repeat it, that for Democrats to win, they're going to have to address the needs of the working people, they're going to have to address the needs of the middle class,' he continued.

'And that means standing up to Wall Street, standing up to the greed of corporate America. Even now and then, standing up to the media. And that means having a candidate who can excite working families, excite young people, bring them into the political process, create a large voter turnout,' Sanders said.

Sanders is fending off questions about the veepstakes as he makes his final stand in California this week ahead of the June 7 primary there.

He told Todd he still believes he can overtake Clinton in the pledged delegate count.

Sanders has repeatedly pointed out that he's won 46 percent of the pledged delegates from his wins in states who have held primaries and caucuses thus far.

In order to get over the 50 percent mark, Sanders would need to win the remainder of the states by large percentages.

Which is why he's also looking for support from superdelegates backing Clinton in states that he won.

He's also approaching the superdelegates who committed to Clinton before he jumped in the race and argue that he beats presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump by bigger margins in a bevy of general election polls.

'We're going to make the case for the superdelegates, "Your job is to make sure Trump is defeated, that Bernie Sanders, in fact, for a variety of reasons, not just polling, is the strongest candidate,' Sanders argued.

Todd pointed out that the senator was 'basically contradicting' himself.

'You're saying you want them to respect the vote in their state, then at the same time, you say, "But, uh, by the way, for those of you that are superdelegates in a state that Clinton won, why don't you think about the general election?" 'It's a little bit hypocritical to be on both sides of those issues,' Todd said.

Sanders pushed back.

'No, no, no, that's not what I'm saying,' he said. 'What I'm saying is, there are over 400 superdelegates who made a decision to vote for Secretary Clinton before anyone else was in the race. Before they got a sense of what the campaign was about.'

'And all that I am saying is for those superdelegates who came onboard before I was even in the race, you have got the very grave responsibility to make sure that Trump does not become elected president of the United States,' Sanders said.

The only way Bernie Sanders would accept the Democratic VP ticket.. is if Hillary incorporated.. lock, stock and smoking barrel.. his economic agenda. Bernie is completely authentic in pressing his policies on trade, regulation, progressive taxation and economic equity.

Hillary doesn't know much about economics.. but what she does know she got from Bill Clinton.. the most rabid Free Market President of the last 40 years. She is hopelessly compromised on Free Trade.. having negotiated Free Trade Pacts and part of the Obama administration's continuation of the Clinton legacy.. and voted for them in the Senate.

She can't win without Bernie.. but she's not a smart enough politician to realize that.

Expect her to choose a 'youngish', photogenic, southern, hispanic.. to balance the ticket with respect to image, geography and ethnicity.. and expect him to be moderate and malleable on trade, tax and regulation.

I don't think Hillary could handle a strong personality like Bernie.. she'll choose someone who she doesn't find threatening.
