Fiveparadox. I simply ask, what gives the Queen the right to rule. You simply state it's apart of the constitution. Fine enough. So if we change the constitution and say the ITN's fax mechine is now Queen I guess that gives the fax mechine the right to rule by the same accord.
When I ask you what gives her the right to be our Queen, it is her blood, her family ties, the fact she was born between the right sheets at the right time. Not because she was elected Queen, not because of the merit of what she has done in the past (though she has done many good things).
Perhaps the monarchy is generally a facade these days, a side show of sorts. But to me even the idea of monarchy is wrong. Saying somebody is better then you and me just because they were born in the right family at the right time.
I'm not trying to upset you, I'm just stating what I believe to be true and in no way am I even saying you have no right to believe in the monarchy. Hey thats up to you and if you wish to believe in them and think of them as a progressive force, hey whatever floats your boat. Perhaps when you get into university you may change you mind if you study the monarchy from the fall of the Roman empire to the enlightenment and to the modern age. But I can not change my views on the Royal family nor nobility.
