Did he write these letters or not? Ron Paul has not been found guilty of anything wrong except by questionable sensationalist news groups looking to find anything wrong. He has been in politics for over 30+ years and this is just coming out? Coincidence I doubt it.

"Ron Paul's campaign says he did not write an advertising letter that went out under Paul's name 20 years ago that predicted a "coming race war in our big cities" and referenced a "federal-homosexual cover-up on AIDS."

"He did not write this item and they are not his thoughts," Paul's campaign chairman, Jesse Benton, said in an email.

Paul's rise in the polls has brought with it increased scrutiny over a series of racist newsletters that went out under his name in the 1980s and 1990s. The newsletters claimed that "[o]rder was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks," that nearly all black men in Washington DC "are semi-criminal or entirely criminal" and that AIDS sufferers "enjoy the attention and pity that comes with being sick," among other controversial claims.

Paul reiterated his claim that he did not know who wrote the newsletters and had been unaware of their comments to CBS News and National Journal on Tuesday, saying "everybody knows I didn't write them, and it's not my sentiment." He suggested the resurfacing of the issue reflects "politics as usual

Ron Paul is a physician by profession. Hardly uneducated.

I have known a number of physicians in my time, and as is the case in many professions they knew very little of the world outside their chosen profession. People who actually both choose to follow world events and are fully aware of the horrors and inequities in this world are a rare breed. Unfortunately, Ron Paul comes cross as an individual who has very little sympathy for the disadvantaged or those not blessed with his congressional salary.

I will agree that he is way too libertarian for my taste. But seriously though, compare him to most Re[publicans and even many Democrats and at least he has the virture of not wasting all of their hard-earned money on war, and also has respect for the Constitutional rights of all under US protection or custody, including Guantanamo detainees. he even criticized Obama for being way too slow to act on that front.

So as imperfect as he is, among the bunch the US has to choose from, he's far from the bottom of the barrel.

Paul is not going to get away with the idea that he did not know the contents of those writings. Had it been only 1 or 2 writings, he may possibly convince a few people of that. But repeated writings such as those reported couldn't be hidden from him for too long. And again, notice how it is Republicans who are bringing out these truths. Can't blame "obamabots" as some one did on another thread.

If you are saying Ron Paul is the best of a bad bunch you may be right, although I would certainly choose one or two others over him; but just remember he is the best of a bad bunch.

He maybe the best in a bad bunch, but lets not forget the big picture, there are a couple others that are better than what is running the orchard now.

Ex-Aide: Ron Paul Foreign Policy is 'Sheer Lunacy'

Ron Paul is not having the best holiday season. First the media discovered racist, anti-Semitic newsletters that went out under Paul’s name in the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s. Then the New York Times did a story about the support Paul draws from white supremacists and anti-Semites.
Now there’s former Paul staffer Eric Dondero purporting to describe the ins and outs of Paul’s positions on everything from Israel (it shouldn’t exist) to Hitler (we shouldn’t have fought him) to 9/11 (U.S. authorities may have known about the attacks) to Afghanistan (we shouldn’t have invaded). He calls Paul’s foreign policy “sheer lunacy.”
Or, as the conservative Weekly Standard summarized in hits headline: “Ex-Aide Says Ron Paul Is a 9/11 Truther & Isolationist Who Thinks U.S. Shouldn't Have Fought Hitler.”
In his 2,100-word piece, posted at RightwingNews.com, Dondero says he held several campaign and Capitol Hill posts with Paul from 1987 to 2003. At his own website, LibertarianRepublican.net, he said he was revealing much of the information for the first time. “Much of what I have to say will not please the liberal media hacks. Though, the Ron Paul diehards will find much objectionable, as well,” Dondero wrote.

There's several Republicans who have fallen under Obama's spell. Do you remember when John McCain called Obama a "decent man"?

Rick Perry used to be a Democrat before he pulled a Benedict Arnold routine on Texas.
Southern Democrats are Republicans at heart, the new Democratic party abandoned the 'Old South".

He is getting to old and should be forgiven, keep in mind he went bonkers during his Presidential bid and blew his own election.

The truth is, Ron Paul is to good for the USA. They don't deserve him.

I'm sure they will manage to elect a other president that will screw them for the next 4 years.

Thats fine with me.

I remember last federal election I was speaking to a Green party activist who had totally looney currency ideas. This does not mean the local Green candidate held those same views.

Many members of the Conservative Party are probably racist, but that does not mean all Conservatives are racist. Some members of the NDP are probably communists, but it doesn't mean all New Democrats are communists.

Ron Paul being a strict isolationist (way too isolationist for my taste) will naturally attract those who think the US should not fund Israel or defend israel for different reasons from his own. For him, it's based on a principle of isolationism; for them, anti-semitism.

Judge RP on his own merits, not on those of any Joe Bloggins who claims to support him.

Ron Paul Under Fire for Praising Accused Traitor

Fox News is the latest news organization to pick up on the revelation, first reported by AIM, that Ron Paul had praised WikiLeaks source Bradley Manning as a hero and patriot. Directly referring to WikiLeaks and Army soldier Bradley Manning being held in detention, Paul said, “Should he be locked up in prison or should we see him as a political hero? Maybe he is a true patriot—who reveals what’s going on in government.” The comment drew strong applause from Paul supporters.

Video of the event, officially posted by Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty organization, also shows the Republican presidential candidate, now rising or perhaps leading in the polls in Iowa, attacking the CIA and its treatment of terrorists.

Paul “let his mask of semi-respectability fall when he praised Bradley Manning, accused traitor,” wrote Washington Post “Right Turn” blogger Jennifer Rubin.

A conservative view of Manning, who had been an Army intelligence analyst in Iraq, was expressed in strong language by columnist Deroy Murdock. He said Manning “should be court-martialed for espionage and treason.” He added, “If convicted, he should be placed against a wall and executed by firing squad” He said the same goes for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, if he is extradited to stand trial here.

Manning, a homosexual Army soldier with “gender identity” problems, has just undergone a preliminary hearing which could lead to a court-martial, where evidence was produced showing his collaboration with Assange and WikiLeaks. The charges against Manning include aiding the enemy in violation of Article 104 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. However, the prosecution team has announced that it is not seeking the death penalty.

the new Democratic party abandoned the 'Old South".

Actually it was feudalistic white supremacist Dixiecrats who started to leave the party in the 1948 election with the Thurmond-Wright ticket. Then in 1968 many of them supported George Wallace. This after years of supporting FDR and Truman who saved them from financial disaster.

Close enough.
