Don't count the ol' Doc out yet.

(CNN) -- Texas Rep. Ron Paul won a California straw poll, the state Republican Party announced in a statement Saturday night.
A total of 833 ballots were cast during the straw poll, the statement said.
Paul won with 44.9% of the votes, Texas Gov. Rick Perry came in second with 29.3% of the votes, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney came in third with 8.8% of the votes.
The California Republican Party, associated members and registered guests were allowed to vote in the straw poll, according to the statement.
Paul was scheduled to give speeches in Los Angeles on Saturday, including the keynote at the Republican Liberty Caucus of California.
He has gained momentum in the race for the White House in recent weeks, according to the latest CNN/ORC International Poll. Among current GOP candidates, Paul placed third in the poll with 13%, following Romney in second place with 21% and Perry in first with 32%.

Ya, Big Brother would not approve of a free thinker like Paul. Gotta have another Bush clone to keep the world free from terrists.

Free thinkers I have no issue with.

Conspiracy nuts neither think freely or clearly of which Ron Poll is..

Ron Paul has about as much chance of getting Congressional support for his ideas as Obama. Come to think of it no one has a chance of getting Congressional support for anything. With all the nuts pulling strings I wish the next POTUS luck trying to manage anything.

Wonder who the last (if there ever was one) 'qualified' candidate for prez was that won?

People are strange.

We all enjoy nitpicking and tearing strips off those that believe in an invisible man (in fact, all prezs' like to say 'God bless America and make like they're praying (or actually do if the believe) in times of sorrow. But if they don't, then we'd attack them for that too. Yes to god, no to god. Ya can't win.

One thinks man-made global warming, another digs abortion. Next dude hates drugs. Buddy wants to capture foreign oil. Or death to commies and muzzies. Should have served in the military. Better marks for seeing action. More if a general? No, peace loving hipster would be best. It never ends. Gotta have an M.A.? No? Ok, then PhD. Businessman? No, they're bad too.

They're all millionaire lying lawyers for the most part. Self-serving crony hypocrites. That should put us off from the start.

So who is to say who is 'qualified'? Far as I know they gotta be over 35 and a (real :p ) natural-born citizen.

I say give Ronnie the keys. ;)

I respectfully disagree with you!

In my opinion, Ron Paul is neither a democrat nor a republican in the more traditional sense. He's a free thinker who follows what he believes in, completely opposite to the vast majority of politicians in Washington. A free thinker is definitely what I would describe him as.

I don't believe he's very easily swayed by lobby groups, which in my opinion, is the ultimate downfall of what was a great US of America.

Ron Paul is of a dying breed of politician.

Ron Paul doesn't scare me as much as his openly racist son does. A number of my American friends like some of what Ron Paul says, but they all concede that while a lot of his approaches are in keeping with the way many Americans view the way their political machines were intended to run, they also say that he is not anything approaching realistic in terms of dealing with the real world. Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson et al may have agreed with much of what Ron says, but they lived in a different world 230 years ago...
