Well said Chake99. I personally don't read the Bible... I just ask why Christians get upset about the marriage thing. They tell me the same thing over and over again that the Bible says its a sin. I am not calling it that... that is what they say the Bible says.

So all I was telling Vanni is that they cannot be practicing - and I mean practicing Christians and be homosexual. I am not sure what Christians you talk too but they aren't the ones I have.

So since there is a definite dichotomy to the saying that there are Christian homosexuals. They are either lying or are not really aren't homosexual at all.

I almost laughed just then...but then I realized you're serious.

How is it that being a homosexual precludes one being a Christian. I've been reading posts from Christians for months now, saying that the bible should not be taken literally, that it's not 100% factual (right tibear  )...

Ask yourself this then...if that be the case, that portions of the bible can be discarded if deemed inappropriate, then why is the parts of the bible that condemns homosexuality taken so goddamn literally???

...and as for them not being Christians, last I looked, the United Church of Canada is still a Christian denomination, and the accept gays into their congregations...also the Anglican Church, another Christian denomination, has been making moves towards that end as well...

So let's all be nice and treat the queers as real people, shall we... 8)

Funny you’re an atheist and a socialist, why are you living in Canada, why not move to Europe where you will have more people that will listen to you and not question your gospel.

I was born here. Became an atheist and a socialist here. Why not? Canada is a country that has gained much from democratic socialism and the spearation of church and state.

and why Reverend Blair ? thats not fitting of a (man) of your mindset.

I'm ordained. I can even get parking passes for my car. Jealous?

In what faith NONE

Does that make it any less legitmate than your faith? How?

No you are to correct me, now what faith ?

Same church as a couple of those TV preachers that beg for money, actually.

Pssst...you'll have to ask the Rev. I have my suspicions, but it's really up to you to ask him, and him to tell you, if that is what he wishes...

It's not a secret. We're just dealing with a man too lazy to do his research, Vanni. I enjoy laughing at people like him. I was ordained in the United Life Church. They've been ordaining anybody with return postage for decades, now they do it on the internet. It's free.

But gays do have equal rights... I don't understand? Don't you have the right to benefit plans, pensions, etc. just like any other common law relationship?

After a long and hard-fought battle they do have those rights. Those are often contested by families though, which leads to a whole other set of legal problems...many of which would melt away with government-recognized marriage. They want the right to marry the people they want to for more basic reasons than money though. Most people getting married haven't got a will or even considered the legal implications. They really just want to make their commitment official, have a party, and announce to their friends and relatives that they've found somebody.

Nobody tried to stop me from marrying Mrs. Rev (her mother still seems a little miffed at times though  ) so what the hell business is it of anybody's if two men or two women want to marry each other? It isn't. They are human, just like us. To deny them a portion of that humanity because they missed out on the tab A into slot B programming makes us all a little less human.

If this the case, then why take a Christian based ceremony - marriage - and try and make it not Christian? If there are churches that will recognize your civil union that's great. .. but why call it marriage?

It isn't a Christian based ceremony. It pre-dates Christianity, Judaism, and recorded history. To impose the Christian bible on marriage is to deny human history.

You cannot be a practicing Christian and be a homosexual because it is against the Bible's teachings.

So I guess the gay Catholic Priest I know (no, he's not a pedophile) is not a practicing Christian?

By your logic people who eat seafood cannot be christians?

I thought "eating seafood" was an indication that you weren't gay...unless you happen to be a woman, I guess. Then it would make you a lesbian. Or maybe not...there is a '70's porn movie where one girl explains to the other that they aren't lesbians, they're just trying to keep warm. No word on whether they were Christians, but they did seem rather forgiving when the escaped convict showed up...

Marriage isn't in any way Christian, it can be found in some form in many societies; it's merely a socially sanctioned bond. If a sect want to prevent people from taking 'the sacrament of Holy Matrimony', or whatever they choose to call that particular ceremony, they can argue about that amongst themselves: They have no right to stop the rest of us making (or, for that matter, breaking) that bond.

Hah...that's what I suspected...I've a friend who was ordained over the internet by them...

...sadly, I fear he may have been lost in the last earthquake in Indo...he survived the tsunami, and was sending regular e-mails after, but since the last earthquake I've heard nothing from him...and there's not much information on the embassy website...I hope he's well...

hehe ... I couldn't resist visiting the website. It seems that, since 06 June 2004, the United Life Church website has had 00001 visitors. That would be me, then.

RE: Right Wing Bigotry Fr

There was some sort of a split there, Henry. It was all political and turned into the hardcore Christians against the rest of us. A lot of Bushite stuff. I haven't been back since it started. I haven't been back to my old high school either, come to think of it...or my community college. I'm pretty much one of those guys that gets his paperwork and moves on, come to think of it.

Hah...that's what I suspected...I've a friend who was ordained over the internet by them...

That's where Hunter Thompson got his doctorate in theology (it's why they called him "Doc"). I think Jimmy Swaggart got his credentials there too. There are a few others...all as qualified as I am. They used to have a list, I'm not sure if it's still there. The names on it were interesting though...TV preachers mostly.

I actually signed up because Zen and Edge were getting married and I was doing the ceremony.

Hey...that's immensely cool Rev...

I'm still thinking about it...but I think it would freak out the churchy folk too much if I actually had some credentials to back up my claims...

Come on Henry, it only takes three minutes to be ordained...lets do it... :p

I was tempted, Vanni, but that a sin, so count me out. And three minutes is a long time. God, I'm so weak.

Hey - I've just been back (briefly) and it said I could be ordained instantly. Fuck, does that mean I'm ordained, whether I like it, or not?

Not sure what you're referring to with the seafood thing...but I've had an epiphany...

I'll become an ordained minister of the UCL, and then with bible in hand I'll rant and rave about how everyone should be amish...

I mean think about all the problems it would solve...

1. A quick and easy solution to the energy crisis.

2. Kyoto targets would be a breeze.

3. People would be too busy building barns and making quilts to be gay.

4. There would be no filching of taxpayers money, because we'd all be bartering chickens and cows.

The possibilities are endless, Rev...Just think about it!!!
