No it is a fact. Taxes, permits, fees are part of the cost of doing business that is passed on to consumers. As I tried to explain to canuck when these items get too expensive for consumers to accept the business either folds or moves to a lower tax regime, taking the jobs with them. Then when you buy their product you are supporting some other province/country.
The same goes for rich people. Tax them too much and they will move elsewhere, taking their disposable money with them. THis happened years ago in England and is now happening in France. Since governments are not about to cut back on spending any time soon all this does is increase either the debt or taxes for those that are left.

The same thing will happen when wage rates get out of line in an area. Especially with manufacturing. Muscle jobs will go where muscle is cheap. When both labour and taxes are low you will see manufactures flock there. Largely why so much automotive manufacturing has left Detroit/Windsor area.

Companies use roads--they, like us, should pay for the roads. Companies use Customs. They, like us, should pay for Customs. Companies use water. They, like us, should pay for water. If you use it, you should pay for it. They use landfills. They should pay for the landfills.

I don't think corporations should pay more, or less. But if they are using the services provided by government, then they should pay for them.

If corpoations are subsidized (by, for example, free use of roads paid for by the citizens of Canada) that distorts the market.

Corps do pay more, hence the opportunity for various provinces and states to make concessions on the taxation front to attract big employers

Corps are subsidized no more than you or I... The market distortion here would favor the individuals in society moreso than any companies

If that is the case, I have no problem. I thought that taxslave and Wallace were saying that individuals should be subsidizing corpoate use of public resources.

Corps are subsidized no more than you or I... The market distortion here would favor the individuals in society moreso than any companies

Corporations shouldn't be used as a cash cow, and nor should they be given a free ride, in my opinion.

Good point. But that is only for moving machinery around, not transporting product. Even the farm pickup must be licensed and there are rules on what can be done with it. Are the rules the same in all provinces for farmers?

And maybe they should as we depend on them to eat and generally speaking the ones producing the food get paid less than the marketers, the transporters, the middle men and the merchants, so I don't see getting to move their tractor from A to B is any big deal.

Well there was a bread truck in front of me in traffic this morning. Pretty sure my kid used the toilet in Safewqay the other day--is that toilet hooked up to a special Safeway-run sewage tretament plant, you figure?
