The military rolls with all the troops and that's just the way it goes. The Taliban in Afghanistan was totally overwhelmed by the US led NATO response to the terrorist attacks on the US. It is a tactical blunder not to overwhelm your opponent on the battle field. When you attack with insufficient force you run the risk of losing all your troops, and turning over much of your equipment to the enemy who then can use it against your next attack.

I wasn't against defeating the Taliban, I'm against being there for a decade. Way too long.
I thought we should have attempted to cut a deal with the Taliban. But if that wasn't possible, then going after just the people of interest and anyone who gets in the way. Trying to install a democracy by force doesn't work. I'm not familiar with any successful example. Democracy only comes when the people demand it as we saw in Tunisia and Egypt. Afghans never wanted democracy.
Who really wants a Democracy? Democracy has not proved to be good for anything other than allowing the masses to vote out tyrannical and incompetent leaders.
Who knows but if Trudeau was our Prime Minister until 2000, we would have had adopted a hammer and sickle and Americans would be coming up here, as Canada would have liberalized after Trudeau's death, for $20 hookers, pedophilia, cheap consumer goods and Canadians would be drinking Vodka like the Russians.
All countries need leaders like Peter the Great, Napoleon, Maria Therasa, Fredrick the Great of Prussia.
I know if Peter the Great saw Downtown Victoria he would bulldoze half of it and move the homeless to Prince George and rebuild the city.
Heck Napoleon III did the samething in Paris and no one today complains about the marvel that is modern Paris.

Regime change takes time. Afghanistan has been at war for the last thirty years or so. It doesn't change over night when no one can go to school for a generation.
